BEHIND THE HEADLINES

Ami Barer

Barer makes it three for 2022: The first SCOOP 2022 hat-trick is complete! Hats off to Canada’s Ami “UhhMee” Barer who last night won the $2,100 NLO8 title (SCOOP 67-H) to bag his third victory of the series. Barer previously won a $109 buy-in 6+ event, and a $1K 7-Max tournament, so adds a third victory in a third variant, this one worth $60,028, including bounties. Barer also has a runner-up finish to his name, so is running incredibly hot at the moment. That’s five SCOOP career titles for Barer, who won his first in 2012 and another in 2014. He’s never quite done anything like this before, however.

Dinesh Alt

Alt takes second title and huge bounty haul: This has been a very good SCOOP for Dinesh “NastyMinder” Alt. The Austrian player, who came into the series having won just about everything in online poker except a SCOOP title, now has two of them after closing out the $5,200 Titans event on Monday night. It was a $5,200 buy-in tournament, with 163 entries, and Alt was chip leader at the end of Day 1, champion at the end of Day 2. He took an incredible $157,285 in bounties alone, which he added to the $72,860 prize pool for a total haul of $230K. His defeated heads-up opponent, Andy “BowieEffect” Wilson earned the same payout from the main prize pool, but only $2,500 in bounties. So Alt scored a crushing win. His previous victory came in the $109 Sunday Kickoff last weekend, and was worth $44,887. Alt’s defeated final table opponents included Ramon Colillas, who finished third for about $65K.

Near miss for (nearly) new dad Fintan: Fintan “easywithaces” Hand pointed out over the weekend that the next time he hit the Sunday grind, he would be a father. His girlfriend is due to give birth to their first child this week, and so he said he was going to focus especially hard before the demands of a third person in the household kicked in. Hand stayed good to his word and made two deep runs, finishing fourth in the $530 PKO, and 25th in the $1K SCOOP 68-H. Hand has become accustomed to winning SCOOP events after making the final table, but it wasn’t to be this time. Canada’s “youaremelon” won the $530 and “vojta555cz” of the Czech Republic won the other. Never mind, Fintan. Young Hand Jr will still be proud.

Studs in stud: Eight players are left in the $1K Stud event, which was paused overnight, and today’s final is going to be one for the ages. Leading the way is Benny “RunGodlike” Glaser, looking for an eighth SCOOP title (and second of this year), but this final table also features Patrick “pads1161” Leonard, Tobias “Senkel92” Leknes and Ole “wizowizo” Schemion. All of them have also won in SCOOP this year, Schemion twice already. When we also mention Norway’s “Chillolini”, a three-time SCOOP winner, we have probably the most decorated final table ever seen in a SCOOP tournament. There are 26 SCOOP titles spread between five of the players, with only “lucas” of Norway, “dfonks” of Mexico and “youre” of Ukraine hunting a first win. Mason “Pye_Face21” Pye missed out on joining them by the narrowest margins. He bubbled the event in ninth. The tournament resumes at 14:30 ET or 18:30 WET.
