Double champions, hard liquor, “ICM coffins” and a first winner from far flung Asia all feature in today’s round-up from the PokerStars Blowout Series

BLOWOUT BULLETIN

Stone grinds down Dimov: There were some big prizes on offer in the Super Tuesday Special Edition (Event #61-H), which played to its conclusion on Wednesday night. The prospect of an $18K disparity between the winner and runner-up, however, prompted the final two players, Canada’s Matt “OLD TIME GIN” Stone and Ognjan “cocojamb0” Dimov to chop it up heads up, before playing to find the champion. Or maybe it was just that these two had both been here before, multiple times, and knew that it could very easily go either way. Stone has won the Super Tuesday at least twice before, and has three SCOOP and one WCOOP titles to his name too. Dimov was a Blowout Series champion as recently as Tuesday night. When they did go on and play to a conclusion, Stone edged out Dimov, denying the Bulgarian his second Blowout Series title of the week. Stone ended with $74,624 while Dimov took $66,294.

Double for PIPON777: The roll-call of double champions in the Blowout Series grew again overnight with Latvia’s “PIPON777” claiming a second victory of the series. After taking down a $530 buy-in hold’em turbo during the first week, PIPON777 needed more than eight and a half hours to grind out a second title in the $530 PLO hi/lo (Event #65-H). The UK’s “Kashmir_uzi”, who was also seeking a second win, went out in third and then PIPON777 beat Russia’s “1Lacky7” heads-up to take top spot. This victory was worth $18,648. It was very nearly an even more spectacular night for PIPON777, who claimed his Omaha prize after also going heads-up in the $530 NLHE turbo. In that one, PIPON777 was defeated by “13nutcracker13” of Greece, who took $36,254 and the title, but the Latvian player refocused to close out the Omaha. The hold’em event finished at 2.50am WET and the Omaha at 4.38am, so there was almost certainly overlapping final-table play. PIPON777 actually won more for his second place ($26,368) than he did for the win. But all in all, that’s a great night’s work.

More for Patrick “pads1161” Leonard

Leonard wins again, records new content: Another night, another tournament win for Patrick “pads1161” Leonard, who was outright champion in the $1K PKO (Event #66-H) after chopping heads-up earlier in the series. What’s more, Leonard was recording everything for his YouTube channel, where he breaks down his thought processes during final table play. (His two tweets on the subject are worth looking at. See “TOP TWEETS” section below.) Leonard ended the tournament heads-up against Pablos701 of Brazil, after the remainder of the 310-entry field had departed. There was no deal discussion this time and Leonard landed the final blow to pick up the last bounty, ending with $25,517 from the main prize pool and $23,121 in bounties for a combined $48,639.

Big names scrap in PLO8: There was a three-way deal at the end of the $55 buy-in version of this, with a couple of familiar names involved. Germany’s “nilsef” once won two WCOOP titles in the same night (and has three in SCOOP too), while Poland’s “Spider91_PL” also has a SCOOP win, from 2016. Along with Finland’s “Saage” they chopped the top three prizes in this medium PLO8 event, with Spider91_PL going on to claim the victory. Spider91_PL won $8,253, nilsef took $7,508 and Saage won $7,475.

Come in, Turkmenistan: There’s a new name, and a new country, on the Blowout Series winners’ board after “MK RED DEVIL” became the first player from Turkmenistan to win in the series. It was an exceptionally impressive performance as MK RED DEVIL was the only player from the country in a field of 4,571 entries. MK RED DEVIL did it with one bullet too, striking a heads-up deal with Canada’s “BLoXX” and taking $2,810 for the win.

TOP TWEETS

Patrick “pads1161” Leonard had every reason to be delighted with yet another tournament victory overnight. But he didn’t get there without facing a few tough decisions, as his Twitter feed will explain:

TWITCH WATCH

Lex Veldhuis enjoyed a brilliant opening weekend in Blowout Series, but the heater is over. Here’s another bubble for the Dutchman, in which he admits things are probably back down to even now.

COUNTRIES LEADER BOARD

The malaise that is affecting Lex Veldhuis seems to have swept across the Netherlands as the country’s total has been only very slowly increasing over the past couple of weeks. That’s allowed the UK, which started Blowout Series very slowly, to move into second place, behind Brazil. Meanwhile, welcome Turkmenistan!
