Home / News / Bounty Builder Series latest: Double Whip, ‘TheKhopMan’ rich and wins for Veksler and Van Fleet

As the final weekend approaches in Bounty Builder Series, we crown another double champion and see some all-time superstars make deep runs. All the very latest from the tables…

BOUNTY BUILDER SERIES NEWS BULLETIN

Double Whip: This Bounty Builder Series has its third double champion after “whipEEr” won the $55 buy-in Event #151 on Wednesday night, adding a new triumph to his or her previous success in the Mini Sunday Million last week. That previous event, which had an $11 buy-in, had a staggering 35,875 entries, none of whom could knock out the player from the Czech Republic. On Wednesday, the tournament had 4,765 entries and a prize pool of nearly $240,000. whipEEr was again unassailable and won a total $23,393.09, including $9K in bounties. That represents two superb victories over enormous fields, and a haul of $44,400 combined. whipEEr joins “Erä_Koira” and “sjae98” as double champions from this series.

TheKhopMan strikes it rich: There was no shortage of big names still involved as the $1,050 Thursday Thrill SE came to its conclusion last night, with Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet finishing 11th, Event #156 winner “Twicyyy” making it to eighth, Sebastian “p0cket00” Sikorski in seventh, Stefan “baeks22” Schillhabel in fifth and Simon “C.Darwin2” Mattsson making it to the heads-up stage. There, Mattsson found himself squaring off against the Irish player “TheKhopMan“, a former winner of the Super Tuesday. TheKhopMan clearly does his best work during these midweek big ones and was able to defeat the otherwise all-conquering Mattsson, earning the biggest prize of the week so far: $66,430.31, including $37,585.91 in bounties. That was the largest share of a $360,000 prize pool built from 360 entries of $1,050 apiece.

Jon “apestyle” Van Fleet: More in the bank

One up for Van Fleet: The aforementioned Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet quickly recovered from bubbling the final table in the Thursday Thrill by making it all the way to the top spot in Event #167, the $530 buy-in NLHE event. He had some tough company there too, with recent WCOOP Player of the Series Rinat “Zapahzamazki” Lyapin finishing fifth and Chris “ImDaNuts” Oliver sitting opposite him for the heads-up duel. But Van Fleet knows a thing or two about winning poker tournaments — he’s done it 132 times, according to a Pocket Fives profile that also shows $16.6 million in lifetime cashes — and he got over the line this time as well. The reward was $16,144.13 from the main prize pool, $17,898.37 in bounties, for a combined $34,042.50, and the all-important Bounty Builder Series title.

Veksler denies Speranza double…: Pavel Veksler is best known for his fourth-place finish at the 2019 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) in which he picked up more than half a million dollars before losing a race to the eventual champion, Chino Rheem. Veksler, who is from Ukraine, plays on PokerStars as “MountainRo$e” and is also the man behind “Mountain Team”, a coaching and staking stable in the Russian-speaking world. Veksler continues to lead from the front and won a big on in the Bounty Builder Series on Wednesday, picking up first place in Event #150, a $530 buy-in hold’em tournament. It earned him $33,729.25, including more than $20K in bounties — the last payment of which came from Gianluca “Tankanza” Speranza, who was defeated heads-up. Speranza missed out on his second Bounty Builder Series title by the narrowest of margins as Veksler proved too strong.

Pavel “MountainRo$e” Veksler

…so does Eset93: In some ways, you might say that Wednesday just wasn’t Gianluca “Tankanza” Speranza’s night. But then again, every poker player would take a second place if you offered it to them at the start of a tournament — and all of them would definitely be happy to finish runner-up twice. That turned out to be Speranza’s lot as he also finished second in Event #153, losing heads-up to “Eset93” of Kazakhstan, in addition to his heads-up defeat by Pavel Veksler. There were 740 entries to this $215 buy-in tournament, meaning $10,753 to each of the final two from the main prize pool. But Eset93 also won $12,111 in bounties, for a combined $22,864.79, with Speranza “only” adding $1,914 in bounty payouts. Eset93 won Kazakhstan’s third title of the series.

Maderira gets the cake: It’s a measure of how skilled poker players are in Brazil these days that Pedro “gusmaa” Madeira is presently ranked “only” 68th in his country, and sixth in his home city of Belo Horizonte. The same Pocket Fives profile for Madeira shows lifetime total cashes of $5.25 million, including 171 outright tournament wins across all tracked sites. That list now includes victory on the Bounty Builder Series, secured on Wednesday night, when Madeira outlasted a 264-entry field to win Event #145, a NLHE tournament costing $530 to play. It earned him $27,070.13, including bounties, and gave yet another title to Brazil.

Cancelled tournaments rescheduled: The ten tournaments cancelled on Monday night owing to some technical issues have been rescheduled for Monday, October 26, which will now be a packed final night of the Bounty Builder Series. Originally, only the Main Event final tables were due to play out on Monday, but it made sense to give everyone another shot at Events #115-#124. Take a look at the revised schedule page for more details of these tournaments.
