We can only assume it wasn’t that much of a surprise to Mercier, if only because it wasn’t that much of a surprise to us. After all this was a man with more than $13 million in prize money, bracelets, and three SCOOP titles won in the weeks before he flew out to Las Vegas. You have to admit, the signs were there.
There was more to talk about this week, or maybe watch is more accurate, as the the PokerStars YouTube channel passed 50 million views. Put another way, since it began in 2009 it has totalled some 465 million minutes of viewable content, each minute carefully watched by someone in the TV team, who happily ignored all those warnings about square eyes.
Of those videos a best guess would be that a large chunk of those minutes were taken up by Team Pro Daniel Negreanu. As if to provide an appropriate link, this week we announced that Kid Poker himself will be back in his home town Toronto to host a PokerStars VIP Club Live party later this year at the Real Sports Bar and Grill.
Daniel will be on hand to treat guests to food, drinks and entertainment, as well as the chance to take part in the CAD$50,000 celebrity poker tournament alongside Daniel and some home grown celebrities. It all takes place on August 1, and you can qualify on PokerStars for as little as $0.55.
Back on the eastern side of the Atlantic and the United Kingdom and Ireland Poker Tour is back in action, albeit on an excursion to Marbella. As I write Day 2 has just got under way, with Spanish player Julian Cabello leading the field. Follow all the updates from Marbella, through to a winner, on the PokerStars Blog, from where Nick Wright and Marc Convey report.
But if you’re not in Las Vegas, or too busy in Marbella to think otherwise, this weekend offers the usual array of Weekend Majors, starting tomorrow and ending in the early hours of Monday. We’ll bring a round-up of those results on Monday, so good luck you’re getting your name mentioned.
As always you can send us your questions and thoughts to us on Twitter @PokerStarsBlog. In the meantime have a great weekend of poker, wherever you might be playing it.
