After a long break from online poker, I’m finally getting back to the tables. I recently went up to Canada to look at some places so I can set up a second residence and get back on PokerStars. I haven’t played online since Black Friday, and I’m really excited to get back to it. I actually don’t live too far from Canada. I’m a Michigan resident, and Canada is about a 45-minute drive from my place. I plan on still living there most of the time, but now I’ll be able to go up on the weekends and play the Sunday Majors or even just head over the border to play when I have some random free days.

Since my last update, I’ve logged more than a few frequent flier miles. I traveled to South Africa at the end of October to play in the WPT event in Johannesburg. My fellow Team Pros Chris Moneymaker and Liv Boeree were also there and after the tournament, we went on safari. Our first stop was a park where we able to get really close to the animals and interact with them. We were able to go right up to some giraffes, who were pretty friendly. The highlight, though, was getting to play with the lion cubs. It was amazing, really a once in a lifetime experience. After that, we took a more traditional safari tour where we were able to observe wild animals in their natural habitat from the safety of our jeep.

In my last update, I wrote about the bar I opened with my dad, but unfortunately we’ve had to temporarily close our doors. We were operating the bar with a charitable liquor license and donating all the profits from our liquor sales to charity. Well, the state of Michigan stopped issuing charitable liquor licenses, so now we have to get a real one. So right now, we’re in a bit of a holding pattern while we wait on the license. We’ll reopen as soon as we get it, but it’s pretty tough to get a liquor license in Michigan. Honestly, it’s been a pain.

But, it’s a new year with new opportunities on the horizon. Let’s hope it’s a good one.
