It doesn’t take a great deal of imagination to think about how the late Chad Brown would’ve reacted to PokerStars’ first Festival event in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Born and raised in New York City, Brown picked up poker in Italian cafes when he still lived on the East Coast. He made one of his first final tables in Atlantic City. If he’d lived, it seems a sure bet we’d be seeing him at the AC tables next week.

Though Brown died two years ago, his memory perseveres. A week from today, his friends and fans will honor him in New Jersey with the 3rd Annual Chad Brown Memorial Poker Tournament.

As part of the PokerStars Festival in New Jersey, Daniel Negreanu will host the event Thursday November 3 at the Resorts Casino Hotel.

“Years ago Chad, Vanessa [Rousso], and I envisioned making a difference through charity events. I wish he could see that with the support of our poker community, we are,” said Chad’s manager and friend, Beau Eurell.

Beginning at 7pm with a cocktail reception, the $200 buy-in event will have unlimited $100 re-entries. Half of the entire prize pool will go to the TJ Martell Foundation. In addition to the money, there will be some big prizes up for grabs, including a $5,000 seat to the PokerStars Championship Bahamas Main Event.

Prize list
–$5,000 PokerStars Championship Bahamas Main Event seat
–$3,200 Players Poker Championship (PPC) Aruba Main Event Package
–WPT500 entry to any 2017 WPT500 events
–$500 VIP WPT Experience

–$499 Poker Academy training course by Rep Porter and Rick Fuller (Inaugural Chad Brown Tournament Champion)
–Home poker table designed by Gorilla Gaming (valued at $925)
–Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) Qualifier package worth up to $380

“I’m really happy to be having the event in Atlantic City this year. It’s the first opportunity for Chad’s East Coast friends who don’t play in the WSOP to pay their respects,” said organizer Jennifer Winter, one of Brown’s longtime friends. “I’m a coordinator by trade, so planning these events seems like the natural thing to do to help honor Chad’s memory. Working with PokerStars and being a part of their inaugural festival is something that would bring a smile to his face.”

The first two memorial events raised $150,000 for cancer research. This year’s event will add to that money that goes to study the rare cancer that kill Brown.

“Chad was a close friend to me and many other people in the poker community and I’m delighted to be hosting this tournament in Chad’s honour,” Negreanu said. “It’s great to see different people, and indeed different poker companies, from across the industry come together to raise money for a great cause.”
