The headlines from the fifth day

We’re well into SCOOP 2017 now and seldom has an event come along that hasn’t captured the imagination in some way. Take these recent results for instance.

Jerry “hummylun” Wong won SCOOP 14-H. Of all the poker events that sound like some sort of activity you do wearing spandex at the local school gymnasium on a Tuesday night, Razz has to be up there. It was the first chance for fans of Razz to get a workout. As Martin Harris wrote, it was Wong who came out top.

It was all about beating the man in SCOOP 15-H, which BIack88 of Russia did rather well, knocking out six of seven final table opponents (six of whom could claim SCOOP titles) to win his second SCOOP title. You can read Pauly McGuire’s report of that here.

Charlie “epiphany77” Carrell is one of those players that has become part of poker’s scenery these past two years, both live and online. After what Al Rash reported as a long process of chopping up pots in the PLO8 six-max, he won his second SCOOP title (his third COOP) in SCOOP 16-H.

This time last year drew.derzh was playing online poker for pennies. But as Alex Villegas detailed in his report, an amazing year has brought him SCOOP 17-H success. It’s a great story, and well worth a read.

Current leader board standings

Among the names you’d be least surprised to see at the top of the Overall SCOOP leader board would be eight time SCOOP winner Calvin “cal42688” Anderson.

So you won’t be surprised to hear that that’s exactly where he is going into the first weekend of SCOOP. That’s down not least to a SCOOP win yesterday, but three final tables, including a third place in SCOOP 15-M.

Here’s how things look.
