1.58pm: Telcher takes a stab
Mark Teltscher is sat to the right of PokerStars player Freddy Deeb but fireworks are yet to erupt between the two – yet surely that’s just a matter of time. Teltscher, who was runner up in this event two years, saw a four-way flop alongside Deeb in the big blind and a middle position and hijack limper. A Q♥ Qâ™  3♦ Aâ™  2♦ board didn’t tempt anyone to take a shot until Teltscher fired out a 500 bet on the river. Slow played monster or capitalising on weakness? Your guess is as good as ours…

1.45pm: Mercier’s button aggression
Tournament grinder Jason Mercier has started as he means to go on 3-betting from the button freely. The London EPT £20,000 High Roller Event winner (for a tasty £516,000) chopped the €1,000 tournament here a couple of days ago and is looking to carry that form on to the main event. Unfortunately others at his table seem to be aware of his aggression and he’s already had to lay down one 3-bet in a tangle with the cut-off.

1.15pm: Interesting seat draws
Tournament director Thomas Kremser has just got play underway after a few announcements. This is the first EPT of the season for many players and they will enjoy the new deep stack of 30,000 chips and a slower structure.

As ever the seat draw has produced some interesting tables. Last year’s 6th place finisher Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier is sat right along side Team PokerStars Pro Marcin Horecki. Dragan Galic won’t be happy to see PokerStars sponsored player Arnaud Mattern and Roland DeWolfe sat next to him but at least they are to his right. Runner-up here two years ago Mark Telcher has Freddy Deeb for company as well.

1.10pm: Action is under way in Barcelona. Look out for these regular level-by-level updates, which will run alongside our feature pieces from the tournament floor.
