Blinds: 5,000-10,000 (ante: 1,000)

4.40pm: Launais, Launais; Launais, Launais; feeling hot, hot, hot
On the final hand before the end of the level, Bruno Launais took down another small pot, this time from Tristan Clemencon. They checked the flop of Qs-6d-8s but Clemencon bet 42,000 on the turn of Ah, which Launais check-called.

Launais also checked the 9s, as did Clemencon, and he was right to. Launais’ A-9 had made two pair on the end and Clemencon wriggled out of the trap without losing too many more chips.

4.30pm: Esquevin vindication
With a board already showing 6s-Ad-2h-4d the pot had reached about 100,000. Bruno Launais bet 50,000. Arnaud Esquevin then raised it to 120,000 in total. Now Launais went into the tank, a long think that no one was prepared to rush, not least Launais who had about 280,000 behind. He had the call counted out but instead moved all of his chips into the middle. Now the attention was on Esquevin. It took him half the time to make his decision, the decision to fold an ace face up.

4.20pm: Two tables
With 15 minutes remaining on the level play just 16 players remain. With two tables left players are redrawing for seats.

4.15pm: Bessout-out
Andrea Benelli made the decision a simple one for Jerome Bessout. Either fold your hand or call for your tournament life. Bessout was out of his chair but seemed like he’d grown tired of fighting with the short stack, calling with pocket deuces. Benelli showed A-7 and waited. The board ran Q-5-A-8-T sealing Bessout’s fate.

4.05pm: When two tribes go to war
The biggest two stacks at table one just tangled in a major pre-flop raising war. Arnaud Esquevin made a standard pre-flop raise from the button and Tristan Clemencon reraised to 72,000 from the big blind.

Esquevin thought for long enough to make us think he might be folding, but he didn’t. He reraised to 175,000. Clemencon folded. Before all this, Esquevin was playing about 600,000 and Clemencon had about 700,000. After all this, it’s the other way round.

3.45pm: Esquevin vindication
Arnaud Esquevin made it 60,000 pre-flop. The action was folded around to Jorn Walthaus who has been making bold moves all afternoon and was about to do another, making it 120,000 to go on. Esquevin seemed keen, pushing in his stack, an island of green and black towers which made Walthaus sigh in frustration. He covered his mouth and nose with his hand for a while, part hiding, part praying. There were two choices and he took the one to fold.

3.40pm: New level
Blinds are up as we enter level 20. Twenty-one players remain.
