It happened with precious little fanfare. Betrand “Elky” Grospellier, one of the world’s most famous poker players, took down the EPT Berlin €10,000 High Roller event for more than €200,000 in prize money. It was the type of event that would normally have most of the poker media awash with news. The problem: most everybody was on an airplane bound for Monaco.

A bit of scheduling silliness meant that The PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final €100,000 Super High Roller started very quickly after the EPT Berlin High Roller ended. So, when EPT Berlin’s main event finished up, most of the poker media headed straight for the airport so they could make it to Monaco on time.

And good thing they did, because the €100,000 Super High Roller has turned into a monster. After several reloads, there were 45 total entries and a prize pool worth more than €4.4 million to the top six players.

Tonight, the Super High Roller hit the final table, and guess who is sitting among the final eight players. You got it. Monsieur Grospellier himself.

When the players broke for the night, ElkY was fourth in chips and looking to score his second major title within the last week.

ElkY looking for second big win in one week

This is a final table the would draw attention even if ElkY weren’t sitting at the table. Here’s how the final table players stack up headed into tomorrow’s action.

Justin Bonomo (4,393,000)
Tobias Reinkemeier (1,682,000)
Daniel Negreanu (1,581,000)
Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier (1,265,000) 52000
Masa Kagawa (1,076,000)
Jonathan Duhamel (654,000)
Patrik Antonius (338,000)
Eugene Katchalov (262,000)

See, if you know anything about poker, you know every name on that list. You know that Katchalov won one of these Super High Rollers in the Bahamas less than two years ago. You know that Negreanu finished runner up in that event. You know Reinkemeier won the High Roller in Monaco two years ago. You know Bonomo has nearly $3 million in live tournament earnings. You know Duhamel crushed the PCA this year in all the big events. You know Antonius recently made his return to tournament poker after a short layoff. And you know know Kagawa has tons of money and likes to gamble. There really aren’t many final tables you could enjoy much more.

But none of them have won a High Roller within the last week except ElkY. Is he on a heater? Can he do it again? We’ll find out tomorrow when ElkY sits down at the final table.

“Gonna be a sick fight,” he said.
