Dzmitry Urbanovich has become the first person to win four events at an EPT festival.
The €200 Crazy Pineapple final table came down to Urbanovich and PokerStars Team Pro Marcin Horecki. The former was making his sixth final table appearance, with three victories already as well as one second place and one eighth.
Horecki began the heads-up with 557,000 to Urbanovich’s 283,000 with the blinds already at 12,000/24,000. There wasn’t much room for play and with the 15-minute clock of the Turbo ticking down, it wouldn’t take long for all the chips to go into the middle.
Horecki was whittled down and eventually forced all in. The flop came Q♥ 10♥ 9♣ , both discarded and Horecki turned over Q♠ J♣ to Urbanovich’s A♠ 6♠ . The 7♣ turn and 3♥ river put the Team PokerStars Pro back into the fight. The blinds were now 20,000/40,000 meaning there were only 21 big blinds in play.
The pair battled for a brief while longer, a pause coming when they saw Dominik Panka was all in on the final table of the Main Event, but eventually all the chips went in again with Horecki at risk once more.
The flop was 8♦ 2♥ 10♥ , both players discarded with Urbanovich folding the 2♦ face up. Horecki showed J♦ 8♥ and Urbanovich held A♥ 4♥ . The 4♦ turn gave the latter extra outs and the river was the J♥ , both players realised Horecki now had two pair but Urbanovich made the flush to win a record fourth event here at EPT Malta. Horecki got €2,350 for second and Urbanovich bagged €3,260 for his win.
Urbanovich and Horecki shook hands and then the former dashed off without any fanfare, he’s apparently bought into the Triple Stud event before registration has closed. There’s still a day and a half for title number five…
The €1,000 + €1,000 event has gotten under way with 75 players so far including Patrick Leonard, former Player of the Year Fernando Brito, IPT Malta winner Georgios Zisimopoulos and Shannon Shorr. Every single player has a €1,000 bounty on their head and with 15-minute levels, expect the eliminations to come quickly.
The €1,500 Six-Handed is down to the final 39 players and is on dinner break. First prize is €61,240 and 27 places will be paid a minimum of €2,765. Elsewhere Kenny Hallaert is still in the €100 Super Holdem, there are 16 players left from the 39 entries with a total of 64 rebuys. First place there pays €2,340 and 6th gets €487.
