4:40pm: It’s over! Three-way chop, Albert Daher High Roller champion!
Level 24 – Blinds 20,000/40,000 (BB ante 40,000)

It’s all over!

The three players didn’t need long to come to terms — a straight ICM deal for the remaining prize money, meaning the last hand of the EPT Monte Carlo High Roller has been dealt.

“How does this sound, fellas?” “We like it!”

Thanks to his big stack, Albert Daher wins the title along with the largest share of the cash. Here’s how the prizes break down after the deal:

1st: Albert Daher – €595,386
2nd: Shyngis Satubayev – €492,768
3rd: Mark Teltscher – €416,846

Back in a little while with a recap of a quick, exciting final day. –MH

4:35pm: Deal talk
Level 24 – Blinds 20,000/40,000 (BB ante 40,000)

The last three players have paused the proceedings to talk about a possible deal. Here are the current counts:

Name Country Chips BBs
Albert Daher Lebanon 3,415,000 85
Shyngis Satubayev Kazakhstan 1,635,000 41
Mark Teltscher UK 900,000 23

–MH

4:30pm: Oleksii Khorshenin eliminated in 4th place (€259,000)
Level 24 – Blinds 20,000/40,000 (BB ante 40,000)

On the very next hand after Joao Vieira’s knockout in fifth place, Oleksii Khoroshenin open raised all in for his last 625,000 from under the gun (or the cutoff, if you prefer), then Shyngis Satubayev reraise-shoved from the button and the blinds both folded.

Khoroshenin: AQ
Satubayev: AK

It was a tough spot for the start-of-day chip leader, and the K3K flop made it a lot worse. The Q and 5 completed the board to send Khoroshenin out in fourth, and Satubayev is now stacking 1.635 million. –MH

Oleksii Khoroshenin – 4th place

4:28pm: Joao Vieira eliminated in 5th place (€208,700)
Level 24 – Blinds 20,000/40,000 (BB ante 40,000)

Joao Vieira opened for 85,000 from under the gun, then Daher reraised to 260,000 from the cutoff. It folded back around to Vieira who waited just a moment before declaring an all-in and Daher called right away.

Vieira: JJ
Daher: QQ

Vieira stood from the table while Daher remained sitting as the K92 flop, 5 turn, and 10 river were dealt, ensuring the better pair held and ending his run in fifth place. Vieira wished the others well and departed, and now Daher has a nice, big chip lead with about 3.4 million. –MH

Joao Vieira – 5th place

4:25pm: Julian Thomas busts in 6th (€164,535)
Level 24 – Blinds 20,000/40,000 (BB ante 40,000)

Julian Thomas was nursing a stack of less than ten big blinds, so when it folded to Albert Daher in the small blind and he moved all-in, Thomas might have to make a tough call.

It turned out to an easy one as he woke up with JJ, and happily put his last 350,000 at risk. Daher had QJ, and instantly took the lead on the 106Q flop. The 9 turn gave Thomas a straight draw, but the 4 river didn’t complete it.

Julian Thomas bids the final table adieu

Thomas falls in sixth for €164,535, while Daher’s chip lead increases to 2.55 million. –JS

4:20pm: Daher doubles through Teltscher
Level 24 – Blinds 20,000/40,000 (BB ante 40,000)

Mark Teltscher opened the button and Albert Daher defended his blind to see an 8102 flop. Daher check-called a 100,000 c-bet, bringing the 5 on the turn. Daher would check again, and Teltscher continued for 210,000.

“All-in,” said Daher for 800,000 exactly, and Teltscher looked interested. He took about ten seconds to make the call.

Daher: 108
Teltscher: K10

Daher’s two pair was beating Teltscher’s top pair, and no king arrived on the J river.

“Very nice hand,” said Teltscher. “That was a hard hand to get away from.”

He drops down to 1 million, while Daher increases to a chip-leading 2.2 million. –JS

Chips going Daher’s way

4pm: Big double puts Teltscher on top
Level 24 – Blinds 20,000/40,000 (BB ante 40,000)

The new level began with Mark Teltscher looking across the table at the current short stack, Julian Thomas, who is sitting with just about half a million chips.

“Lucky you’re good at doubling up, isn’t it?” said Teltscher with a grin to Thomas, and the latter nodded as the next hand was dealt.

As it happened, Teltscher would be the one enjoying a fortunate double-up on the hand that ensued.

It started with a raise to 90,000 by Teltscher from the button, and when action reached Albert Daher in the big blind he re-raised all-in. Teltscher looked around the table a bit to see everyone else’s stacks, then called to commit his entire 965,000.

Daher: 1010
Teltscher: AQ

The QA3 flop was good news for Teltscher, giving him two pair, and his hand held through the 7 turn and 5 river.

Teltscher catapults into the chip lead with that one, up right around 2 million, while Daher slips to 905,000. –MH

Your new chip leader, Mark Teltscher

3:55pm: Movin’ on up
Level 24 – Blinds 20,000/40,000 (BB ante 40,000)

It’s time to raise the blinds again and put even more pressure on these players. –JK

3:50pm: A Cinderella story
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

Albert Daher has had a pair of white, expensive-looking high heels under his chair all day today. They belong to his girlfriend, who has also been here all day supporting him (alongside their dog, who you may have spotted in photos from this tournament over the past couple of days).

Daher just picked up those heels and walked over to return them to their rightful owner. But she didn’t want them.

“They’re bringing you luck!” Daher’s girlfriend told him. “You’ve never had so much luck on a final table!”

“Maybe you’re right,” said Daher, who returned to his seat, shoes in hand. “If I win I’m going to wear them in the winner’s photo!”

Julian Thomas asked if he could borrow the shoes in a bid for good fortune. The answer was no. There can only be one cinderella heading to the winner’s ball. –JS

It must be the shoes

3:45pm: Daher takes from Khoroshenin
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

Following a few more small-pot hands, we saw some action in one that began with an Oleksii Khoroshenin raise to 60,000 from middle position and a call from Albert Daher.

The flop came Q3K. Daher checked, then called after Khoroshenin continued for 65,000. Both then checked the A turn.

The river brought the J and another check from Daher. Khoroshenin waited a short while, then bet 135,000, and Daher called.

Khoroshenin tabled 77, but Daher had that well beaten with KQ for two pair. Daher stays in the chip lead with 1.55 million, while Khoroshenin sits in second position currently with 1.15 million. –MH

3:40pm: C-CL vs SOD-CL
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

That headline may look like computer keyboard shortcuts, but it’s actually my shortcut to telling you that this was a pot between current chip leader (C-CL) Albert Daher and start-of-day chip leader (SOD-CL) Oleksii Khoroshenin.

Oh. Damn. By spelling it out I’ve defeated the purpose of the shortcut, haven’t I? Never mind.

Anyway, Daher made it 60,000 on the button and Khoroshenin defended his big blind to see a 10AK flop. Khoroshenin check-called a 40,000 c-bet, before check-calling a second barrel on the 9 turn for 165,000.

The 8 river got a third check from Khoroshenin, and Daher waited around 30 seconds before announcing a bet of 550,000. Khoroshenin looked back at his cards, but was pushed into folding.

He’s down to 1.065 million, while Daher extends his lead to 1.57 million, good for 52 big blinds. –JS

3:30pm: Six countries, all well represented
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

Not much happening over the last three hands — a limped pot won by Shyngis Satubayev, another small one won by Oleksii Khoroshenin, a walk for for Julian Thomas.

Meanwhile Joao Vieira was just chatting with neighbor Albert Daher about the all-time money list for Portugal. Vieira currently sits at fourth on the Hendon Mob list, about $450K USD behind leader Joao Barbosa. That means a finish in the top two here would vault Vieira to number one on the list.

Daher, by the way, is third on the all-time money list of players from Lebanon. Khoroshenin is also third on the list for players from Ukraine. Mark Teltscher is 14th among UK players, and Thomas just outside the top 50 for Germans

Meanwhile Shyngis Satubayev is currently second on the all-time list for Kazakhstan, just a couple of thousand behind Aidyn Auyezkanov. That means he’s already clinched the top spot in that one, no matter where he finishes today. –MH

Kazakhstan’s new money leader, Shyngis Satubayev

3:20pm: Daher gets paid
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

Small-vs.-big-blind pots always have the potential to be tricky. Perhaps thanks to a nice flop check from Albert Daher, he just tricked his way into getting paid off.

Joao Vieira limped the small blind and Daher checked his option, bringing a 610J flop. Both checked, and the dealer burned and turned the 6. Vieira checked again, and now Daher led for 50,000. Call.

The river was the 9 and when Vieira checked again Daher made it 175,000. Vieira had to think about it, and after using up one of his time bank cards he made the call. Daher flipped over KJ, and top pair was best when Vieira mucked.

He’d get a few chips back in the next hand though. Oleksii Khoroshenin opened to 60,000 under the gun, and when it folded to Vieira on the button he three-bet to 170,000. That got a fold.

Vieira now has 785,000, while Daher is up to 1.35 million. –JS

3:10pm: Teltscher doubles through Satubayev
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

Oleksii Khoroshenin opened for 60,000 from the button and got a call from Shyngis Satubayev sitting in the small blind. The action moved to Mark Teltscher in the big blind, and after checking his cards and thinking for a few seconds, he once again announced he was pushing all-in.

Khoroshenin let his hand go right away, but Satubayev asked for a count, and upon learning that the shove was worth 505,000, he called.

Teltscher: 99
Satubayev: AQ

The all-heart 4710 flop kept the at-risk player in front, then the 9 on the turn gave Teltscher a set and made the 5 river not matter. Teltscher doubled to almost 1.09 million, while Satubayev slips to 1.175 million.

Now all six players are bunched together chip-wise, all sitting within 300,000 of each other with stacks in the 30-40 big blind range. –MH

Mark Teltscher’s double puts him squarely in contention

3:05pm: Chip-leadin’ Satubayev
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

Shyngis Satubayev hasn’t had the chip lead for long, but he’s doing with it what he should: applying the pressure.

Albert Daher opened the cutoff to 60,000. Julian Thomas three-bet the button to 180,000. And Satubayev, in the big blind, moved all-in to put them both at risk.

Cue two quick folds, and more chips for the chip leader. –JS

3pm: All-in mode for Teltscher
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

Mark Teltscher returned from the break to the shortest stack of the six remaining players. He’s immediately trying to change that situation, if he can.

On the first hand back Teltscher open-shoved from the small blind, getting Joao Vieira to fold from the big blind while showing his 95 face up. A couple of hands after that Teltscher opened with an all-in raise again from the cutoff and got it through. He’s still sixth, but up to 530,000 now. –MH

2:52pm: Back to the action
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

Our players are back and we’re moving the blinds up once more. –JK

2:41pm: Break time

It’s time for our first 15-minute break of the day. For now, here are our current chip counts:

Name Country Chips BBs
Shyngis Satubayev Kazakhstan 1,350,000 45
Albert Daher Lebanon 1,175,000 39
Oleksii Khoroshenin Ukraine 1,085,000 36
Julian Thomas Germany 1,045,000 35
Joao Vieira Portugal 895,000 30
Mark Teltscher UK 400,000 13

–JK

2:40pm: Daher doubles through Khoroshenin, picks off Satubayev
Level 22 – Blinds 10,000/25,000 (BB ante 25,000)

Oleksii Khoroshenin’s strong Day 2 had him in strong position coming into Day 3, but he’s dropped about half his stack now after oubling up Albert Daher. Khoroshenin called with AJ in the small blind after Daher opened all-in for 351,000 with 87 form the cutoff.

“That’s good,” said Daher. “I’m live. Come on, straight flush again!” There was no straight flush in his future, but there was a pair of eights after the board came 1041084. That moved Daher up to 985,000, ahead of Khoroshenin’s 752,000.

On the next hand Daher opened for 50,000 in the hijack, Shyngis Satubayev called in the small blind, and Mark Teltscher called in the big. Both blinds checked the 5J4 flop and Daher bet 37,000. Satubayev then made it 140,000 to go, chasing Teltscher but getting a call from Daher.

Both players checked the J turn, bringing the 8 on the river. This time Satubayev took the lead, setting out a 160,000-chip stack, but he insta-mucked when Daher called. Daher didn’t show his hand as he stacked up to 1.175 million. –JK

2:30pm: Straight flush for Daher, doubles
Level 22 – Blinds 10,000/25,000 (BB ante 25,000)

Ever found yourself all-in on a final table? Making a straight flush is the stuff dreams are made of. And while he’s still very short-stacked, Albert Daher just lived the dream.

Daher open-jammed 158,000 on the button, and Oleksii Khoroshenin took him on from the big blind. It was 88 for Daher versus Khoroshenin’s 44, and they went to a flop.

[5H][9H][6H].

“I’ll take the 7,” said Daher. The dealer obliged.

Turn: 7
River: Q

Daher turned a straight flush and locked up the double to 341,000, while Khoroshenin now has 1.49 million. –JS

2:25pm: Satubayev stings Tsang in 7th (€126,000)
Level 22 – Blinds 10,000/25,000 (BB ante 25,000)

Yan Shing Tsang is no longer with us after running into today’s master of run-good, Shyngis Satubayev.

Tsang opened for 55,000 in the cutoff and Satubayev asked him for a count on his stack — about 500,000, as it turned out. The amount confirmed, Satubayev moved all-in — and Tsang snap-called.

Tsang: QQ
Satubayev: A7

The A4K8J gave Satubayev a pair of aces and sent Tsang on a farewell tour of the table, shaking hands on his way to collect his prize. Satubayev, meanwhile, is the day’s biggest collector of chips. He’s up to 1.69 million now, making him the new chip leader. –JK

Yan Shing Tsang out in seventh

2:20pm: Daher doubles Thomas
Level 22 – Blinds 10,000/25,000 (BB ante 25,000)

Albert Daher now finds himself firmly in the Danger Zone (“Danger Zone!!!”), as most of his former chips now reside in front of Julian Thomas.

The hand itself played out pretty straightforwardly: Daher opened the cutoff to 50,000, Thomas jammed the small blind for 498,000, and Daher called quickly.

Daher – AQ
Thomas – KK

The 5K4 flop all but ended it, followed by the 9 turn and 2 river. Thomas is now up to 1.05 million, while Daher is down to 190,000. –JS

Daher in danger

2:10pm: No dog coaches, s’il vous plait
Level 22 – Blinds 10,000/25,000 (BB ante 25,000)

Albert Daher’s adorable dog is sitting next to him at the table right now, soaking up attention while the action is slow — or maybe providing assistance?

“No dogs during the hand please, sir,” joked Julian Thomas. “Yeah, no coaching,” said Yan Shing Tsang.

Then Mark Teltscher opened for 66,000 on the button and Daher moved all-in. Teltscher didn’t like the look of that and folded his hand.

“See?” said Tsang. “Coaching.” –JK

2pm: Big pot ships to Satubayev
Level 22 – Blinds 10,000/25,000 (BB ante 25,000)

Shyngis Satubayev is closing the gap on chip leader Oleksii Khoroshenin, having won the first pot we’ve seen make it to the flop (let alone a river) in the past 15 minutes.

Khoroshenin made it 75,000 to go from the small blind and Satubayev called out of the big, bringing a 7108 flop. Khoroshenin would make an 85,000 c-bet, and Satubayev didn’t budge.

That took them to the A turn, on which Khoroshenin didn’t slow down. He fired 175,000 at it, but that still wasn’t enough to shake off Satubayev. The 5 then completed the board, and now Khoroshenin checked it. Satubayev thought for a good portion of his shot clock, before slamming a chip down for a check.

Khoroshenin showed the 92 for a flopped straight draw that couldn’t get there, while Satubayev had turned two pair with his A8. That brings Khoroshenin down to 1.64 million, and Satubayev up to 1.28 million. –JS

They’re closing in on Khoroshenin

1:45pm: Lots of raises, not much action
Level 22 – Blinds 10,000/25,000 (BB ante 25,000)

We’re up to the 10K/25K level now and while there’s a lot of raising going on, there isn’t much calling.

Just now Joao Vieira took down two pots in a row with raises to 47,000 before the flop, one in the lojack and one under the gun. Two hands after that Vieira called from the small blind then folded to an Albert Daher jam. Then Mark Teltscher took two in a row after raising to 56,000, the first without a fight and the second with a continuation bet on the flop to chase Julian Thomas from the pot. –JK

1:35pm: New level
Level 22 – Blinds 10,000/25,000 (BB ante 25,000)

Level up. The current short stack, Albert Daher, has about 20 big blinds, while leader Oleksii Koroshenin has just over 60 BBs. –MH

The final table continues

1:30pm: The number of the beast
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

Oleksii Khoroshenin opened from the UTG+1 seat to 40,000, and Mark Teltscher three-bet to 100,000 in the cutoff. The flop?

666.

“Six-six-six!” called Yan Shing Tsang. “The devil!” added Joao Vieira.

A devilish flop

Khoroshenin checked and Teltscher continued for 62,000. That got a call, and Teltscher would fire again for 82,000 when checked to after the A landed on the turn. That was enough to get a fold.

Teltscher’s up to 905,000 now, while Khoroshenin dips to 1.53 million. –JS

1:25pm: Teltscher squeezes Satubayev
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

Mark Teltscher is reaching into his bag of tricks to pick up chips. He just moved all-in from the big blind over the top of a 40,000-chip opener under the gun from Albert Daher, a call from Yan Shing Tsang, and a small blind re-raise to 130,000 by Shyngis Satubayev. Satubayev did some calculations and eventually decided to let the hand go.

Satubayev drops to 850,000 after that hand. Teltscher climbs to 660,000. –JK

Teltscher takes one

1:20pm: All-in, all the time
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

If this shoving pace continues, it’s going to be a quick day for all of us. We’d need some calls to make that happen, though.

First Yan Shing Tsang opened under the gun and when it got to Mark Teltscher on the button he three-bet it up to 105,000. It folded back to Tsang and he moved all-in for 458,000, which got Teltscher to fold.

Onto the next one. Oleksii Khoroshenin opened to 45,000 and it folded to Albert Daher in the small blind. He now shoved, and we didn’t even get to a full count as Khoroshenin laid it down.

Chip counts after those hands look like this:

Khoroshenin – 1.7 million
Tsang – 573,000
Teltscher – 528,000
Daher – 500,000
–JS

1:10pm: Wouter Beumers eliminated in 8th (€94,500) at Satubayev’s hands
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

Wouter Beumers dominated Day 1 of this tournament, but saw his fortunes trail off in the second half of Day 2. Now he’s become the first of our eight finalists to collect a payout.

The action folded around to the small blind, where Shyngis Satubayev raised all-in with KQ. Beumers didn’t take long to call and showed A9.

Satubayev and Beumers await their fate

Beumers was the favorite both before and after the 5102 flop, but the Q turn gave Satubayev a pair of queens. The 7 was no help to Beumers and he headed away to collect his €94,500 prize.

GG, Wouter

Satubayev moves up to an even million in chips with that win. –JK

1pm: Vieira rockets over a million
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

Joao Vieira’s stack has eclipsed the milly mark for the first time this tournament.

The Portuguese pro opened the hijack to 47,000 and Albert Daher made the call in the cutoff. Over to Oleksii Khoroshenin in the big blind, he came along and the dealer laid a 29Q flop.

It checked to Vieira and he continued for 87,000, and Daher was his only caller. That took them to the 5 turn, but now Vieira slowed down, and Daher checked it behind.

The board was completed by the 8 and it went check-check again. Vieira flipped over AA, and the rockets were good as Daher mucked and dipped to 590,000.

Vieira meanwhile is up to 1.01 million. –JS

Vieira pops up over the 1 million-chip mark

12:50pm: Thomas doubles through Teltscher
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

Mark Teltscher built his stack up efficiently in the later portions of Day 2, but he’s just shed most of that profit after doubling Julian Thomas.

Teltscher opened the action for 44,000 in the hijack seat. The action folded to Thomas who jammed for 327,000 with AJ, and Teltscher called relatively quickly with 66. The flip went Thomas’s way from the start, with the board falling A37K7 to give him a pair of aces.

Thomas is now on about 710,000. Teltscher drops to around 600,000. –JK

Double for Julian Thomas

12:45pm: Not the best start for Khoroshenin, doubles Satubayev
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

Oleksii Khoroshenin’s massive chip lead has just been dented by Shyngis Satubayev.

Khoroshenin had opened to 40,000 from the hijack before Satubayev moved all-in on the button for 340,000. It folded back to Khoroshenin and the Ukranian counted out calling chips before eventually placing them down.

Satubayev – [9D][9S]
Khoroshenin – AJ

All in and a call

It came down to a toss of a coin, and Khoroshenin’s chances improved after the 4610 flop gave him a flush draw to go with his two overcards. The K turn gave him queens as outs, too.

But the 4 river paired the board and kept Satubayev’s nines in front. He doubles to 730,000, while Khoroshenin dips to 1.52 million. –JS

Satubayev doubles, looks for smiley-face emoji

12:40pm: Chop-chop
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

Albert Daher opened the action for 40,000 on the cutoff on the second hand, and then Yan Shing Tsang jammed for 421,000 on the button. That prompted Daher to fold his hand out of turn as the dealer counted down Tsang’s stack – it’s still early after a late night — but Oleksii Khoroshenin called in the big blind.

Khoroshenin: AQ
Tsang: AQ

No spades on the board, so they split up the blinds and big blind ante (plus Daher’s opener) between them. –JK

12:35pm: The final day begins
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

The first hand of the final day is being dealt as we type. Remember, the big blind ante is being used, as is the 30-second “shot clock.” –MH

The final day begins!

11:30am: Khoreshenin seeks high roller title, €25K final table awaits

Oleksii Khoroshenin has enjoyed plenty of success in his poker career, amassing more than $3.2 million in tournament earnings highlighted by an EPT Main Event title in Vienna in 2014. The Ukrainian player has done well in high rollers, too, though has never captured a title in one after coming close multiple times before.

Today presents Khoroshenin enjoys a great opportunity to capture that elusive high roller trophy. He’s one of just eight players left from a 119-entry field in the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo©Casino European Poker Tour €25K High Roller. Not only that, he has the most chips — by far — among all of them.

Oleskii Khoroshenin, currently looking back on everyone in the chip counts

With the last-minute entrants before play began yesterday there were just over 50 players still vying in this high roller, with the name of Wouter Beumers beaming atop the chip counts to start the day. The Dutch player continued to thrive early on, with Mikalai Vaskaboinikau of Belarus also challenging for the lead as the field whittled down toward the money.

Soon though those two fell back to the pack as Khoreshenin began to accumulate. Shortly after Ryan Riess fell in 18th to burst the bubble, a short-stacked Vaskaboinikau went out in 16th. Several other familiar faces were ousted before the night concluded, among them previous high roller champions Stephen Chidwick (15th), Bryn Kenney (13th), and Thomas Muehloecker (12th).

When Alexander Uskov went out in ninth the official final table was set, and by the end of play Khoreshenin had more than twice the chips of his nearest challenger while Beumers was still in the mix as the short stack.

Here’s how the stacks will look when play restarts today:
