Home / Uncategorized / EPT Monte Carlo: Mercier takes hits

It’s hard to think of many players who had a better year on the EPT in 2008 than Jason Mercier. He won in San Remo just over a year ago and followed it up with another final table appearance in EPT Barcelona and then won the High Rollers Event at EPT London. He also has a very distinctive look that’s almost Poochie-like, usually with an American sports jersey, sideways baseball cap and large sunglasses.

Here in Monte Carlo, he got off to his typical flying start, before a couple of pots knocked him back. In the first, he was check-raised off a Q♣ J♠ 4♠ board after he bet 3,450 but the Russian Ilya Bulychev re-raised to 8,500 forcing Mercier off the hand.

In the next hand, Mercier attempted to isolate a mid-position limper from the cut-off, making it 1,550 to go, before Kevin Larsson on the button re-raised to 3,050. The limper got out of the way and Mercier made the call but slowly check-folded to a 4,000 bet on an A♥ 4♠ 2♦ flop.

He’s currently on just over his starting stack of 30,000 so not in any trouble just yet.
