EPT Monte Carlo: The random draw

April 29, 2009

The random table draw discriminates against no one, throwing enticing tables together as easy as ten guys who’ve never played an EPT before. Today is no exception, with a couple of tables standing out as candidates for Sunday Night Football.

At one end you could stand and watch Joe Hachem take on William Fry, Ben Kang and Thierry van den Berg. At the other get yourself along to Barny Boatman’s table who lines up alongside recent WPT winner Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Laurence Houghton, Jeff Madsen and Tony Cascarino.

But in scenes reminiscent of last year one players is getting more attention than most. Security had to be called to cordon off Boris Becker’s table here in season four, and while the corner table may offer some protection for the PokerStars Ambassador, it may only be a matter of time before the big chunky men in suits are called.

Boris Becker

His table mates are already feeling the breath of photographers hanging over their shoulders, a dozen or so following Herr Becker, poking lenses into any gap between players. There are even TV cameras filming other TV cameras. Pandemonium.

But it’s another German Florian Langmann making early waves, taking a few pots pre flop and then with a bet before the turn. Becker plays a hand, betting 300 from under the gun but gets a walk, the likes of Langmann, EPT Prague finalist Francesco Ciriani and Dave Shallow look on.
