Steve Silverman has been on our radar for some time now. We first met him on his way to a third place finish on the LAPT in Costa Rica. Then a chance for a quick interview on the steps of the casino this morning – only Team PokerStars Pro Hevad Khan beat us to it, checking in on how his countryman was doing.

It turns out quite well…

Heading into the day with 226,400 Silverman has since doubled that, and then some, a run of play that has turned his stack into one of the few measured in square feet. Pots against Michael Tureniec helped so did calling Alexia Portal’s all-in.

Portal shoved pre-flop behind a bet of 16,500 by Silverman. With the action folded back to him he called showing 9♦ 9â™  to Portal’s A♥ Q♦ . The 9♥ was first card from the deck, ending Portal’s hopes but adding another bundle to Silverman’s stack.

Dragan Galic, with his chips stacked like a large wedding cake, may look unstoppable and Constant Rijkenberg’s chunky tower casts a shadow on the surrounding tables. But Silverman may just be the player to challenge their dominance. At last count he sat with more than 700,000.
