Home / Poker / EPT10 Deauville: Need to learn German? Nein. You already know it

There’s nothing original about this post. We’ve done exactly the same thing before. But if you don’t follow the Team PokerStars Pro Jan Heitmann on Twitter, you really should. And it goes double if you think you don’t speak German.

Jan Heitmann: Gewinnt!

The thing is, you do speak German if the German tweeter you’re following is a poker player. Such is the overlap between poker terms in English and German that even a total monoglot can understand almost everything — and get a kick out of the bits that don’t seem to make sense, until they do.

It’s been an up-and-down ride for Heitmann on Day 2 of EPT Deauville, as his timeline tells us. Read it through, read it out loud if you have to, but believe me: You might not think you speak German, but you do. (There’s a glossary at the bottom of the page if you’re stuck.)
