Today will be a busy day at EPT Barcelona as the Main Event plays down to its last couple of tables while the €10,000 High Roller kicks off.
It’s going to be one of those days when best-laid plans for coverage will be interrupted throughout…for instance, in the time it took to write that sentence, Fedor Holz was eliminated by Kimmo Kurko.
Kurko opened to 20,000 with 6♠ 6♦ , Holz shoved for 137,000 with A♦ K♦ and Kurko called. The pocket pair held up. Meanwhile Grzegorz “DaWarsaw” Mikielewicz was about to make his debut this week on PokerStars Blog when he was snatched away by the television crew for a quick interview.
It is also our intention to catch up with Pedro Marques, one of three Portuguese players still left in this event. The unique thing about Marques is that at the beginning of this tournament, he was one of three people from his family playing in the event.
His mother, Margarida, also played. As did his father Joaquim. The elder Marques couple were eliminated before the money, but their son is holding the fort. Overnight, he was sitting ninth in chips and has no reason to think this adventure is going to end any time soon.
Bigger news than all that, though: Jan Heitmann is not wearing his hat.
The High Roller starts at 1pm, so expect a trickle of the game’s top stars arriving to take their seats. Registration is open all day, but it’s likely to be popular. We’ll have proper, hand-by-hand coverage of that as soon as it begins.
