It’s an age old question: “If a poker tournament starts in the woods, and there’s nobody around to see it, does anybody play it?”

All right, so it’ not a question that’s asked very often, but still. We now know the answer.

Earlier today there were rumblings among the players, particularly those who had found themselves wanting in the main event, as to whether a bespoke tournament could be arranged. Nothing too fancy, just, say, a €5k hyper-turbo with a single re-entry, with maybe a seat to the $50K Super High Roller tomorrow to the winner. Was that something that could be arranged?

Low and behold a table was found, along with a dealer, chips, and a deck of cards. Actually, make that two tables.

A few players suddenly found themselves with a ticket and a seat card, the likes of Pratyush Buddiga, Jack Salter and Bryn Kenney. These were the instigators. Then Walid Bou Habib took a seat. It was as though these players had simply found themselves mysteriously drawn to this corner of the room.

That’s the impression some of the players got. Sam Greenwood and Anthony Gregg (carrying a beer) were two, Dan Smith a third. When Salman Behbehani saw what was going on he sprang up from his seat in the main event to see what was going on.

“I saw him playing,” said Behbehani, pointing to his friend Bou Habib, and then back at his seat in the main. “So I was thinking about busting this.” Bou Habib laughed. More players have since arrived to play, including Sam Greenwood and David Yan.

No one was told. No notice was put up. No announcement was made. But someone built it, and they came.

You can now make that three tables.
