Home / Uncategorized / EPT11 Malta: A win for Adams and Reixach (and Barcelona)

You can only imagine how devastated the player in seat 2 of table 2 was when he was eliminated. All that work to get here, the travel, and let alone the expense. Today all that came to nothing, and he was in and out in just a few hours.

Not everyone grieved the loss. Joyful at this news were timothy Adams and Sergi Reixach. For that man’s empty seat meant that they had somewhere to rest their laptops, turn on a sports channel and watch the Barcelona vs. Madrid game.

So long whoever you were!

You might think that the poker would be the principle concern at a time like this, but to watch Sergi Reixach, or at least to watch his arms, you would get a different impression. Every now and then his arms would fly up, as if to celebrate a goal, only to detour to the top of his head, where he would leave, them, as if never intending to celebrate anything anyway.

Adams meanwhile was altogether more thoughtful. He remained calm. No flailing arms for him, just a intense focus as he watched, while forgiving his neighbour his exuberance.

But still, it made for an odd sight in the tournament room, Adams and Reixach staring down at the seat between them, as if it were occupied by a 12 inch high poker player who only they could see.

I’m not saying the closing stages of Day 1a aren’t taken seriously or anything. Let me just say that again.
