We deliver here a quick look-in on a bit of the side action as both the Main Event and High Roller move into their latter stages of play tonight.
There were a couple more champions found this evening, both hailing from the host country.
A little bit earlier tonight the €200 NL “Saturday SuperStack” (Event #63) played all of the way down from 334 entrants to a champion. That was the event we were discussing earlier chosen by the Norwegian contigent as their “Vi Menn Open,” with 106 of them participating.
The top 47 finishers split the €66,736 prize pool, with 10 of the players from Norway picking up cashes. The highest finisher among that group was Ove Andre Stenberg who finished 12th for €990, adding another cash to his victory in the PLO €500 (Event #50) earlier this week.
The final table, meanwhile, featured representatives of France, Ireland, Spain, Netherlands, Ukraine, the Russian Federation, and Japan. In the end it was Spain earning yet another silver spade to add to the ones they’ve already secured at the festival, as Jose Antonio Torres Martinez took the title and €13,000 first prize.
Fernandez beat out the U.K.’s Peter Charalambous heads-up for the win, while also outlasting a tough final table including seventh-place finisher and EPT5 Warsaw winner Joao Barbosa and eighth-place finisher Naoya Kihara of Team PokerStars Pro Online. He earned €49,420 for his victory.
We’ll catch you back up with all of the night’s winners in the morning. Meanwhile, continue to enjoy the coverage of the Main and High Roller right here on the PokerStars Blog.
