The European Poker Tour returns to one of the familiar locales on the tour today. Copenhagen is usually coated in a thick layer of snow when the tour rolls in from Deauville, but today there is none of that, only bright sunshine to show a pretty, although winter battered landscape along the Christiansen, which is covered with a thin layer of ice.

Copenhagen has featured on all eight EPT season and, if you cast your mind back to previous years, manages somehow to conjure up something special; more specifically a 15 hour final table or some dazzling new champion.

Last year that man was Michael Tureniec, who sauntered to the title like an heir. Past winners have included Jens Kyllonen and Anton Wigg; Tim Vance (who survived a memorable and tumultuous heads-up scrap); Magnus Petersen, who snatched victory from the jaws of Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier; Mads Andersen, who snatched 3am victory from the jaws of tournament executives needing by law to close the casino; and the fresh faced Noah Boeken all the way back in season one.

Season 7 winner: Michael Tureniec

Today the cycle begins again. The best players from around Europe and Scandinavia will be in town for an encounter with the peers. In between they’ll talk shop and wander over to the Q8 service station on the other side of the hotel car park to buy pulse, iconic Danish sausages, smeared in ketchup and mustard, which form one of the EPTs three major food groups. Nicotine is another group; the bread that the sausage is serve in being the other.
