EPT8 Monaco: Your chip leader Nick Yunis

If you haven’t been following the eighth season of the European Poker Tour as closely as is expected in the world of poker geekdom, it’s not really a surprise to see Nick Yunis topping the chip count list at the start of play today.

As mentioned earlier today, Yunis is currently placed fourth in the Player of the Year standings with 2,435 points, some 725 behind PoY leader Ondrej Vinklarek (also still in the main event).

Yunis, forever in a thin-rimmed trilby that looks three sizes too small, reached this lofty position after a season of regularly impressive results, including cashing in the EPT San Remo main event. Here’s how his Season 8 records looks so far:

  • 3rd in the EPT Barcelona € 2,000 no-limit hold’em turbo bounty, earning €13,100 (375 PoY points)
  • 5th in the EPT Barcelona € 1,000 no-limit hold’em, earning €15,400 (390 pts)
  • 7th in the EPT London £1,000 no-limit hold’em, earning £5,800 (250 pts)
  • 9th in the EPT London £1,000 no-limit hold’em turbo, earning £2,750 (150 pts)
  • 2nd in the EPT London £1,000 no-limit hold’em heads-up, earning £15,700 (360 pts)
  • 58th in the EPT San Remo €4,600 no-limit hold’em main event, earning €12,000 (100 pts)
  • 11th in the PCA $2,000 no-limit hold’em bounty event, earning $2,730 (150 pts)
  • 9th in the PCA $25,000 no-limit hold’em 8-max high roller event, earning $79,770 (150 pts)
  • 5th in the EPT Madrid €1,000 no-limit hold’em turbo bounty, earning €2,480 (260 pts)
  • 62nd in the EPT Campione €5,000 no-limit hold’em main event, earning €9,000 (100 pts)
  • 10th in the EPT Berlin €1,000 no-limit turbo bounty, earning €1,550 (150 pts)

    Yunis, 26, is in his seventh year as a poker player, with the prerequisite success online before going live. Interestingly when he cashed in San Remo he was beating himself up about his 58th place finish late into the evening. The man has determination and the desire to win. He’s one to follow as play continues today.
