Day 2 in Deauville is coming to a close, and we have raced ever onwards towards the money. With only about 177 players now left, we are almost certain to hit the cash early on Day 3. There will be 120 players paid, so only a handful to be left disappointed.

Some nuggets from around the room, ahead of the final Day 2 wrap:

  • Jake Cody’s dream of a Deauville double is over. He had about four big blinds at one point, doubled it up with A♥ 10♥ against Alice Taglioni, but then couldn’t get kings to hold up against ace-king and was sent packing.
  • In news of other former champions, Zimnan Ziyard is now one of the chip leaders. He is sitting to the immediate left of Vanessa Rousso and has been on a tear. Ziyard, who won at EPT Loutraki, has close to 350,000 chips.
  • Meanwhile Salvatore Bonavena and Antonio Mattias are also still in the mix, sitting on the same table. Lucien Cohen is still sticking around too. You would have got long odds against any of those three becoming the first two-time EPT champion, but they are still in the hunt here.
  • Likewise Sandra Naujoks. The EPT Dortmund champion is still in this one, with about 100,000 chips. She is on a table with Lex Veldhuis, who has 78,000.
  • In other Team PokerStars news Mattias De Meulder has about 190,000 and birthday girl Vanessa Rousso has 55,000.
