The tournament director has just paused the clock and announced to players that they will play five more hands before the end of play. — NW
12.40am: The clock struck 10
There’s just 10 minutes left to play, the short stacks will be scrambling to double up or go home and the big stacks will be praying they don’t do anything to change what should be a pleasant night’s sleep. — NW
12.30am: Hruby’s axeman on the chopping block
Earlier in the day Jan Petermann eliminated Team PokerStars Pro Martin Hruby when he flopped a set of queens to crack Hruby’s pocket kings. He’s been as high as 50,000 but right now he’s grinding a short stack as it’s been reduced to 13,000. — NW
12.10am: So cold it’s like the ice age
Severin Schleser just took out Jan Pas in what can only be described as a cooler. Pre-flop Pas raised to 1,700 from under-the-gun and Schleser called from the big blind. The flop was 9♠10♦ 7♥ and Schleser checked, Pas moved all-in for around 10,000 and Schleser made the call.
Pas: Aâ™ 10â™ – top pair, top kicker, backdoor flush draw
Schleser: 9♣ 8♣ – second pair and open-ended straight draw.
The turn was the 3♦ but the J♥ river changed everything and sent Pas to the rail, he and his excellent card protector are pictured below, he calls it his, “lucky talisman,” we say better luck next time Jan. — NW

Players are back from their final break, just another 60 minutes of flops, turns and river to survive to make day two — NW

Eight down, one to go. Players are on their last 20 minute break of the day, 60 players of the 160 who started remain, the average stack is 40,000. — NW
11.20pm: Ondrej the giant
Pictured below is Ondrej Vinklarek, he’s currently doing very nicely and has a stack of around 72,000. But he’s more at home on the virtual felt as many of the Czech media at the event tell me that he is regarded as the best online multi-table tournament player in the Czech Republic, a Czech Chris Moorman if you will. I’ve been told his online name on PokerStars, but can’t reveal it, but he made almost six figures on PokerStars alone in 2010. — NW
11pm: Six figure club
By my reckoning Oldrich Siml is the first player through the 100,000 mark as he currently has 106,000. He’s stood up from the table sending a text message, somebody is about to receive very good news! Siml has form having won the PokerStars Prague Open here in September 2010 — NW
10.45pm: Squeeze play gone right
PokerStars qualifier Hanganu Loredan just got away with one and profited to boot. After a raise to 1,650 and two flat calls he made it 5.700 total to play. The initial raiser got out the way, but the next player along made the call – leaving himself only around 7,500 back – the other player folded so two to the flop. The flop fell 8♦ 10♥ 9♦ and the shortstack moved all-in and Loredan snap called, as you would holding J♦ , the at risk player had pocket threes and didn’t hit his miracle outs, the Romanian is now up to 77,000. — NW

10.25pm: Another stacked table
Two more of Pokerstars Blog’s ‘featured players’ are now on the same table. Sat side by side are an in position Gregor Cichocki (36,000) and Michal Maryska. The latter is stacking his chips in large single columns making it hard to determine exactly how much he has but it’s in the region of 80,000 and is potentially chip leader. — NW
10.10pm: Stacked table
Three of the players I’ve been following all day are all sat at the same table. In the two seat is Jan Petermann (47,700) in the eight seat sits Peter Zografov (46,700) and in the nine seat is Ondrej Vinklarek (59,000). The latter just made quad eights to eliminate a player and add to his stack. — NW

9.45pm: Chip leader gives some back
He didn’t really look like he wanted to three-bet fold but that’s what chip leader Marius Pospiech just had to do. He’d three-bet to around 3,800 only for his opponent to four-bet jam all-in for 20,325. He shrugged and said: “Nice hand,” before folding what he claimed was [A][J]. His opponent showed pocket queens to the table. — NW
9.40pm: Chip leader
Shortly before the break my attention was piqued by a cry of ‘double seat open’ meaning one player had eliminated two players in the same hand. The player who dealt the double dirty deed was Marius Pospiech. He now has a stack of 73,000 and is the likely chip leader, photographic evidence of his stack should be forthcoming shortly. — NW
9.30pm: The final push
Players have returned to action, three more levels to go before the day is done. 84 players remain. Blinds are now 200-400, ante 50 and the average stack is 28,571. — NW
