With respect to Australian sportsmen and Australian poker players they’re not known for getting it quietly, see Mitchell Johnson or Tony G for exhibits A and B. However, there’s one Australian poker player who’s done a very good job at doing just that this year.

The Aussie Wunderkid

The player in the field who’s earned the most from tournaments in 2013 is Australian, but it’s not Tony G, it’s not Joe Hachem and it’s not Jonathan Karamalikis. He is, in fact, 23-year-old Jonathan Rossiter, but of course you knew that right? With $3,771,105 in the bank from this year alone he’s currently ninth on the 2013 money list and second behind Hachem on the all-time Australian money list. Back in October 2013 – pre WSOP Main Event – he was number one on the 2013 money list when my PokerStars Blog colleague wrote this piece about him.

As he explains the majority of that near $4M came from the GuangDong Asia Millions tournament where Rossiter finished second for $3.1M, he followed that up with a fifth place finish in the EPT10 London Main Event for a ‘paltry’ $246,972.

It’s doubtful if the rest of table 54 know of Rossiter’s pedigree but he certainly hasn’t been having it his own way as he’s down to 16,000. He’s also sharing a table with a few familiar faces.

Seat four: Jeff Sarwer – The former chess prodigy turn poker player is an EPT regular with over $600,000 in lifetime earnings. His biggest score to date came when he finished third in the EPT6 Vilamoura Main Event. He’s got 23,600 as it stands.

Seat eight: Giuliano Bendinelli – The Italian took down the Monaco Cup at the Grand Final in May of this year for a cool €100,000.

Seat nine: Thomas Ward – The Scot is a regular on the UKIPT tour and has two final tables to his name. He was runner-up at UKIPT3 London where second place was worth $175,831 and he also finished fourth at UKIPT2 Edinburgh. He’s up to 22,000 here in Prague.

Seat ten: Andrew Chen – The Canadian has over $3M in lifetime earnings and a staggering six, six-figure cashes to his name, many of which have come in PokerStars events. He’s final tabled two EPT’s finishing second to Davidi Kitai in Berlin in Season 8 and fifth in the Grand Final in Season 6.
