The first stop of the fifth season of the Eureka Poker Tour came to a conclusion this evening in the King’s Casino, Rozvadov. After eight days of poker action, Austria crowned their first Main Event champion on the tour.
Raphel Wimmer defeated six opponents on the day to claim the title and €99,685, after a deal was made five handed.
Here are the final table results:
1. Raphel Wimmer, Austria – €99,685
2. Josef Pavelka Czech Republic – €50,646
3. Rastislav Paleta, Czech Republic – €59,962
4. Marek Blasko, Slovakia – €59,962
5. Ruben Pleijster, Netherlands – €53,215
6. Josef Gulas, Czech Republic – € 25,630
7. Branislav Ondrus., Slovakia – €18,680
8. Hossein Ensan, Germany – €12,770
The reason why the last five players made a deal was due to the fact they came back from a break with a tournament average of just 13.2 big blinds. Wimmer actually held half the chips in play at that point so there was very little play available for his opponents.
Wimmer went on to defeat his four remaining players but it wasn’t as simple as it sounds. He lost a huge race versus Rastislav Paleta to drop to fewer than four big blinds but found a way to make it to heads up versus Josef Pavelka. Another big race saw him reclaim the lead and then he got fortunate to eliminate Pavelka in second; his ace-nine came from behind to make two-pair versus his opponent’s ace-jack.
