Home / Uncategorized / FPS Monaco: Chasing chips from China

While most of the 265 who registered for Day 1A of the France Poker Series unsurprisingly hail from European countries, players from all over the globe are helping make up today’s field. They’ve come from Latvia and Lebanon, from Ukraine and Uruguay, and all points in between.

They’ve now reached the end of Level 6, meaning the 207 players still with chips have made it halfway through the Day 1A schedule. And four of those 207 came here from halfway around the world, traveling all of the way from China to participate.

Of that quartet Aaron Shunu Zang is sitting in the best position at the moment with a stack of around 75,000 — one of the largest in the room, in fact. Zang has enjoyed success here in Monaco before, having finished third in the €10,300 Turbo six-handed event here a year ago.

Rono Lo, a Macau high roller, is here, too, returning to the scene of his triumph from a year ago when he finished fifth in the EPT10 Grand Final Super High Roller won by Dan Colman. Lo took €493,340 back with which to play at the Macau high-stakes tables.

Lo currently has about 16,000 in his stack. He is also currently still on the fence deciding whether or not he’ll be playing this year’s €100K Super High Roller that starts tomorrow.

Speaking of which, a €10,300 buy-in satellite for the SHR is playing out in the corner of the tournament room right now, having drawn 33 players — three times as many as the same satty attracted last year — with Bryn Kenney, Mike McDonald, Dan Smith, and Thomas Muehloecker among those participating. There are 15 left from the starting field at the moment, with three SHR seats up for grabs.

Quan Zhou goes to the break with a stack of about 36,000, above average at the moment. Zhou has collected numerous cashes in Macau over the last year, and one on the EPT as well in Prague back in December.

Finally Yuguang Li is still in as well, having ridden here on a heater of sorts after last month winning two events during the APPT Macau Poker Cup series, topping a field of 987 to win the Red Dragon Main Event, then a week later beating out 67 in the High Roller. Together those two cashes were worth about $450K total to Li.

The four traveled here to Monaco together, creating kind of a touring group among themselves. We’ll see how they fare going forward as they continue their travels through the FPS Monaco Main Event.

FPS Monaco Main Event update:
– Through Level 6, 207 remain of the 265 registered for Day 1A
– Among the eliminated today are Julien Renard, Thiago Nishijima, Stephane de Freitas, Ben Heath, Giacomo Fundaro, Josh Prager, and Aleksandr Kim
– The tournament is scheduled to play twelve 45-minute levels today
– There will be a 75-minute dinner break after Level 9
