Germany have a habit of producing great poker players and today we saw another take home a massive tournament pay day. It was RhoNin9 representing the black, red and yellow of Germany and, with an impressive performance on the final table, was able to capture the top prize of $92,530. RhoNin9 entered the final table as chip leader, and took control early on. When luck turned the other way, RhoNin9 was able to recover and build up a big stack once again before powering to victory.

With many players enduring a busy travel schedule to start the new year with major events being held in Macau, Philippines, Bahamas and Australia at this time, you would think that online numbers may be a little down during the holiday period. However today we saw a field of 487 for the Super Tuesday which was an increase on last week and well above the advertised guarantee.

Jake Cody, Marc-Andre Ladouceur, Naoya Kihara, Mickey Petersen were the Team PokerStars pros in action today but they all fell short of the money for the top 63 players. Also falling short was lykD from the Czech Republic who had the unfortunate distinction of being the bubble.

The remaining players locked up at least $2,142.80 in prize money as they continued the battle towards the final table.

It would take around eight and a half hours of play for the final nine to be determined. There was some stubborn resistance around the final table bubble before “a Bull 67” and William “hellzito” Arruda collided in a preflop coin flip. a Bull 67 hit an ace with ace-king but hellzito flopped a set with pocket tens to eliminate a Bull 67 in tenth place and see our final table set as follows:

Final Table Line Up
Seat 1: Eric77112 (244,576 in chips)
Seat 2: Amit “bblacklegend” Jain (164,806 in chips)
Seat 3: k-bossss01 (261,520 in chips)
Seat 4: RhoNin9 (599,175 in chips)
Seat 5: ivanvilchez8 (173,536 in chips)
Seat 6: William “hellzito” Arruda (442,566 in chips)
Seat 7: G.Escobar88 (330,200 in chips)
Seat 8: fel_iv (150,923 in chips)
Seat 9: mene1985 (67,698 in chips)

There was action get-go with the short-stacked mene1985 bounced from the tournament on the very first hand of the final table. With just over ten big blinds, mene1985 moved all in with 5♣ 5♠ but Eric77112 had that bettered with 9♠ 9♣ . The board ran out A♠ 7♦ 10♣ 4♦ A♥ to leave mene1985 to collect $8,084.20 for ninth place.

fel_iv would be next to go. fel_iv three-bet all in preflop with A♥ K♦ but hellzito made the call with Qâ™  Q♦ . When the flop landed 5♥ 10♦ J♦ , hellzito didn’t want to see another queen but the 10â™  turn and 9â™  river landed safely leaving fel_iv to depart in eighth place for $10,957.50.

While conversation centered around the live stream from the PCA which is running at the same time, RhoNin9 set about extending the chip lead with the elimination of Amit “bblacklegend” Jain.

RhoNin9 had raised from early position and action folded around to bblacklegend in the big blind. He decided to move all in for a little over 22 big blinds with A♦ 4â™  and wasn’t pleased to see RhoNin9 make the call with a dominant Aâ™  Q♣ . The board was spread 2♦ 2â™  10♦ 7♦ A♣ to leave bblacklegend to exit in seventh place for $15,827.50 in prize money.

RhoNin9 would continue to climb with the elimination of k-bossss01. With a stack under 15 big blinds, k-bossss01 moved all in from the button with Q♦ J♦ . It seemed like a great spot to steal the blinds, but RhoNin9 woke up with Q♥ Q♠ in the small blind and made the easy call. The board fell 3♦ J♠ A♣ 3♠ A♥ and that brought an end to the tournament of k-bossss01, collecting $20,697.50 for sixth place.

The five-handed battle was an intense one. G.Escobar88 and Eric77112 secured double ups to even up the playing field, before hellzito pulled off a magical double up of his own. hellzito check-raised the flop with just a gutshot, before he and RhoNin9 checked the turn. The river delivered hellzito the perfect card to make his deceptive straight and with another check-raise all in, RhoNin9 couldn’t get away from trip aces.

Things got worse for the chip leader when RhoNin9 was again rivered, this time holding ace-king against ivanvilchez8’s ace-jack. A king and queen on the flop looked good for RhoNin9 but a devastating ten on the river gave ivanvilchez8 Broadway for another sensational double up.

Those two hands changed the table dynamic with RhoNin9 most likely a little shell-shocked to now be back in the pack.

ivanvilchez8 moved into the chip lead with a full house against G.Escobar88, who was bumped to the short stack. Looking for a double up with around 13 big blinds, G.Escobar88 moved all in from early position with 7♥ 7♦ . Action folded around the table to ivanvilchez8 who took the gamble with A♥ 9♦ and that paid off when the board fell 9♥ Q♦ J♣ 6♣ K♦ . ivanvilchez8 paired up to leave G.Escobar88 to depart in fifth place for a $26,785 score.

Eric77112 rose into contention with a big double up with pocket nines against the pocket sevens of ivanvilchez8, before RhoNin9 was able to wrestle back the chip lead making a straight to pick off the bluff of ivanvilchez8.

When hellzito doubled with king-queen spiking a straight, ivanvilchez8 was suddenly on the short stack and in trouble. It was a rapid fall from grace which was ended when ivanvilchez8 tried to steal from the small blind with J♣ 3♣ . hellzito snapped it off in the big blind with 10â™  10♥ and there were no surprises on the A♦ Q♣ Q♥ 3â™  8♣ board. The exciting run of Argentina’s ivanvilchez8 was ended in fourth place for $37,860 in prize money.

RhoNin9 was again in the familiar role of pushing the action with a big stack but things hit a hiccup when hellzito landed a very fortunate double up. hellzito was all in with king-queen against RhoNin9’s dominant ace-queen but hellzito caught a straight on the river to stay alive.

However hellzito’s good fortune would eventually run dry. After a raise and a three-bet, RhoNin9 would heap the pressure on by moving all in with A♥ 4♥ but hellzito wasn’t going anywhere with his A♦ K♣ . The chips were in good but this time the river went the other way for hellzito as the board landed 5♣ 7♥ 9♣ 5♥ 4â™  . RhoNin9 paired the kicker on the river for the knockout blow. It was a great run by the former WCOOP champ as hellzito collected $49,917.50 for third place.

Heads-up chip counts
Seat 1: Eric77112 (495,605 in chips)
Seat 4: RhoNin9 (1,939,395 in chips)

RhoNin9 held a comfortable four-to-one chip advantage entering heads-up play. Eric77112 was able to hold his own in the early stages but the first big all-in confrontation would ultimately be the last.

Eric77112 min-raised the button before RhoNin9 three-bet. Eric77112 responded by moving all in with A♦ 2♦ but RhoNin9 made the call with A♣ 9♥ which was well in front. The board ran out J♥ 9♦ 5♥ K♥ 2♥ with four hears on board, and with RhoNin9 holding the only heart, a champion was crowned!
