If today was the last day on earth, everyone would be out enjoying this amazing weather.

But the sun will come up tomorrow (hopefully), and eight lucky final tablists should have plenty of time to spend their winnings as they see fit. But before that can happen the matter of who gets how much needs to be settled. A full day of final table poker awaits. The stage has been set, the spectators are being ushered in. We’re just minutes away from our final push to crown an LAPT Season 6 Grand Final champion!

Let’s meet the eight hopefuls:

Seat 1: Ariel Mantel, Argentina, 1,230,000 chips

Mantel has previous success on the LAPT, winning a turbo side event in Season 4 for five-figures. Yesterday he battled with second in chips Joao Bauer before taking on Carter Gill on the final table bubble. In short, he has been the least tentative and most willing to go for the spots when he sees them. The payout structure and the short stacks at the table should, in theory, temper his willingness to go for broke. Will he remain patient?

Fearless, perhaps to a fault

Seat 2: Walid Mubarak, Peru, 410,000 chips

Mubarak is a chatterbox, always smiling, and yesterday he kept things light while the pressure got turned up. It may have appeared as another whipping boy of Gill, but in reality he was one of the few that weathered that storm, despite tangling, by virtue of being seated beside Gill, early and often. The man from Lima will represent los Peruanos at today’s table and despite being short-stacked, we expect him to handle adversity with aplomb.

Seat 3: Carter Gill, USA/Colombia, 4,730,000 chips

Gill’s willingness to splash has not been reckless, however. He even folded the ace of spades in the big blind, on the final table bubble, to a six big blind shove from Juan Perez Solari. Whether that was the right play or not is unclear. What matters is that he thought it was, and even though a loss would have made no dent in his empire, he followed through on that read. This is Gill’s second LAPT final table in as many tries, having finished 4th in Panama city two months ago. He left that tournament with a bitter taste in his mouth and seems resolute not to repeat previous mistakes. If he continues to run white hot (no guarantee of that) he will have some wiggle room in the margin of error. Will today

Seat 4: Ivan Raich, Argentina, 930,000 chips

Raich closed affairs on Day 3 when he put an end to the run of plucky Brit Daniel Wilkinson. The latter now has a day in paradise to watch his Pats and sunbathe on the beach with his girlfriend. The former has business outstanding, his tight-patient guiding him through a veritable minefield. On Gill’s direct left, he will have first rights to attack what is certainly going to be a wide opening range. Whether he will seems unlikely given the tremendous payout jumps early (see below). But Uruguay’s hopes of a national champion lay with him.

Seat 5: João Bauer, Brazil, 700,000

The chip leader since Day 1 and the only Brazilian surviving is Joao Bauer. The latter half of Day 3 was not kind to him, as he fell from his peak of 1.4 million in clash after clash with Ariel Mantel. He’s wearing a smile today, however, in good spirits boosted by the large Brazilian contingent sticking around today. Tested online, Bauer has a 2010 WCOOP championship to his name, which was good for $316,702. He was also runner-up in LAPT Season 4’s Sao Paulo stop, for $211,208. He has the skill, experience, and opportunity to do one better today.

Seat 6: Cesar Sanguinetti Guichon, Uruguay, 485,000

The Uruguayan businessman kept a smile under pressure throughout yesterday. At 59 years old he will be today’s elder statesman. Well liked by the local regulars he has a tight-aggressive style that has kept him out of trouble. We have a feeling that, no matter how he finishes today, he’ll walk away feeling like a winner.

Seat 7: Andres Korn, Argentina, 990,000

Adversity prompts him to pull from his stylized electronic cigarette, from what we can see so far, an effective tilt mitigation habit. He may be from Argentina but is well known in the Punta del Este poker scene and enjoys the support of many local grinders. In LAPT Season 3 the now 43-year old final tabled the Punta del Este event, finishing third. The loot from that score finished a nickel and dime short of six-figures — Korn has a clear high water mark to best today.

Seat 8: Juan Perez Solari, Argentina, 345,000

Four years ago this Argentinian began playing poker and has a few LAPT side-event and high roller cashes on the tour since. He kept his head down through some tough situations yesterday but enters the final table with the fewest chips. With blinds beginning at 20,000-40,000 with a 5,000 ante then quickly moving to 25,000-50,000-5,000 he will not have much time to pick the ideal spot.
