The pace of eliminations is slowing as the money bubble approaches here at the LAPT Panama Main Event — less than 10 eliminations away at the moment. The past hour has seen a few lose their seats.
Pocket aces weren’t sufficient for Mexico’s Juan Carlo versus an opponent’s pocket nines after a nine fell among the community cards. Emanuel Marso of Argentina’s ace-king couldn’t catch up to another’s pocket jacks, and he followed Carlo to the rail.
And after enduring a sliding stack throughout the afternoon, LAPT6 Brazil champion Victor Sbrissa took king-jack up against another’s pocket tens, an eight-high board spelling the end for the Brazilian.
Sbrissa leaves behind a number of former LAPT Main Event winners still with hopes of adding another title.
LAPT2 Chile champ Fabian Ortiz of Argentina is still in the hunt with about 160,000, as is the Chilean Alex Manzano, winner of LAPT4 Brazil, currently sporting a stack of around 185,000. Team PokerStars Pro Leo Fernandez (LAPT5 Panama) is alive but short, sitting behind 55,000.
So, too, is LAPT6 Uruguay winner Carter Gill who’s a little better off at the moment with 105,000.
All of those are seeking second titles, while the one LAPT player who already has two — Team PokerStars Pro Nacho Barbero (LAPT3 Uruguay, LAPT3 Peru) — remains alive to seek his third. Barbero remains on the feature table with 135,000, just about an average stack with 87 players left.
