Home / Uncategorized / LAPT7 Panama: Humble hand brings Humberto bust

“Ohhhhh noooooo….”

The baritone was unmistakable as Team PokerStars Pro Humberto Brenes shared a final commentary on his LAPT Panama Main Event run. So, too, was the wide smile through which it was delivered.

Two hands spelled the end for last year’s Poker Hall of Fame nominee.

The first saw Brenes tangling with Robert Lipkin, the Chicago-based player who from Canada plays at PokerStars as “PlayaPlz” and who is coming off a final table appearance at LAPT7 Chile where he finished sixth.

In that hand Lipkin was all in before the flop with Aâ™  K♦ versus Brenes’s K♥ Q♥ , and after a 3♦ 4♥ 9♦ 4♦ 6♥ runout, Lipkin had doubled while Brenes was left with less than 30,000.

Not long after Brenes was open-pushing from the cutoff a stack of about five big blinds, then the player to his left called from the button. It folded to Lipkin in the big blind who after eyeing the chips and mentally tabulating the odds called as well.

The two live players checked down the 10♣ 4♦ 9♥ flop, 6♠ turn, and 3♦ river, then revealed their cards.

Brenes was first, standing as he showed his A♥ 2♥ , and it beat his neighbor’s Kâ™  J♦ . But Lipkin had 3♣ 2â™  , having rivered a pair of treys, the sight of which elicited the aforementioned grin and groan from the Costa Rican.

Brenes wished the table well, then made the short trek to the cashier’s table, a trip he’s made many, many times before in LAPT Main Events. For finishing 57th, he earns $3,020.
