Home / Uncategorized / LAPT8 Chile: Teixeira knocks out Venegas; heads-up with Alache for title

The pace to start Level 29 slowed somewhat, with Oscar Alache maintaining his lead, Renata Teixeira remaining second, and Javier Venegas third.

Teixera used a six-high straight to beat Venegas’s five-high straight to close the gap with Alache and make Venegas a shorter stack. Then came a hand in which it folded to Teixeira in the small blind and after a check of her cards she announced she was all in.

At that Venegas stood up, removing his earbuds to lean forward and examine the situation more closely. The purple-haired Teixeira sat with her arms folded, looking straight ahead through her sunglasses, entirely motionless.

Venegas sat back down, rechecked his cards, then thought another minute longer before finally tossing a few chips in to signal a call.

Teixeira: Aā™¦ 5ā™
Venegas: Kā™  6ā™„

The chanting swelled once more, then burst into another loud roar at the sight of the Aā™  Qā™¦ 3ā™  flop. The 5ā™¦ then landed on the turn, making two pair for Teixeira and leaving Venegas drawing dead to finish in third and collect $86,505 thanks to the four-way deal.

That hand gives Teixeira the advantage to start heads-up.

Renata Teixeira (Brazil) — 4,305,000
Oscar Alache (Chile) — 3,655,000

History will be made however this one turns out. Teixeira has already ensured herself the highest-ever finish for a woman in an LAPT Main Event, eclipsing Jessica Bedoya’s third-place finish at LAPT4 Colombia. And Alache looks to join Nacho Barbero and Fabian Ortiz as the third two-time champion on the LAPT. Stay tuned!
