Twelve events into the MicroMillions II schedule, we’ve arrived at the first of three big-ante events. The $3.30 NL Hold’em Big Antes guaranteed $25,000 for some Friday fun, but the prize pool swelled to more than three times that amount. A healthy 25,466 players paid their entries to put $76,398 in the pot.

Team PokerStars Online Andre “acoimbra” Coimbra clicked his ticket as part of a mission to play all 100 MicroMillions events. He outlasted more than half the field, but his finish in the middle of the pack earned him no money and no leaderboard points. Sigge “ClarkKent89” Reichard was the longest lasting of Team Online, finishing in 3,015th place for $5.34. PokerStars Team Pro Martin “AABenjaminAA” Hruby did better than both of them. He outlasted all but about 2,500 players and earned himself $6.11 — a mini-cash, more or less. No deep runs for the PokerStars family in this one.

As the leader board flicked along like the departure board in a train terminal, a new name began moving steadily toward the top. From about the midway point on, Ireland’s beatthedeck made it very clear that he would be a force to contend with down the stretch. The first hand we watched him play occurred at the 30K/60K (12K) level.

Under the gun, beatthedeck opened with a mini-raise to 120,000. Two seats over, flip.h8ter three-bet shoved for almost 700,000 total. Right next door, Volgograd 96 flatted with about 2 million behind, and beatthedeck reraised all in with the covering stack. The call came, and the Irishman had the goods.

That 100bb pot put beatthedeck in the driver’s seat, and it was a spot he’d grow comfortable with as the night wore on. He was the first player to cross 10 million chips eight hours into play, and he found a friendly drafting partner to help set the pace, too. OasisKid1982 is a fellow Irishman, and he had been doing some quiet accumulating of his own. Seven million chips next to his name put Ireland one and two on the board with 50 players left.

A few players came to challenge the top stack, including Russia’s ODA270 and Finland’s Janela86. Both would end up with deep runs of their own, but neither could hold the lead for more than a few hands. Each time one of them pipped into the top spot, beatthedeck would drag a big pot to immediately retake the position.

With just two five-handed tables left, the final bubble arrived and lingered for several tense hands. Finally, KathTom got the rest of the chips in preflop with 8♥ 8♣ and found a covering call. Egonsonnn woke up with K♣ K♦ in the small blind, and the 10♣ Q♣ Q♠ 6♥ 5♥ board brought the nine survivors to the final table.

Event #12 Final Table Chip Counts:
Seat 1: komaris1202 (9,619,088)
Seat 2: egonsonnn (13,683,600)
Seat 3: Zapbang (3,499,068)
Seat 4: beatthedeck (42,649,708)
Seat 5: MistaZef (8,308,806)
Seat 6: Janela86 (13,778,973)
Seat 7: S0zan (16,013,308)
Seat 8: IonLiveall (11,087,416)
Seat 9: OasisKid1982 (8,690,033)

Level 49: Blinds 200K/400K (80K)
Average stack: 14.15 million (35.4bb)

MistaZef began as the second shortest stack, and he was the first of the finalists to fall. It was a standard shove with J♥ J♣ . And it was a standard cooler when egonsonnn woke up with the A♠ A♣ . The board ran out 2♥ 9♦ 4♣ 6♠ 6♦ , and MistaZef was awarded $381.99 as the ninth-place finisher.

That allowed the shortest stack, Zapbang, to ladder up one spot before meeting his demise in eighth place. He had less than 5bb when he shoved with A♠ 5♠ . S0zan called with K♦ Q♦ in the small blind, and the Q♥ 7♣ 2♦ 7♠ 10♥ board was no good for the at-risk player. Zapbang earned $649.38 as he ducked out in eighth.

Another massive cooler was responsible for the next elimination. OasisKid1982 was one of two dangerously short stacks at that point, and he was likely thrilled to find Kâ™  K♣ in a shoving spot. We’d imagine he was equally un-thrilled to see Janela86 roll over the A♣ Aâ™  , though, the call coming to put the kings at risk. A board full of blanks ended the day of OasisKid1982, and his seventh-place run was good for $954.97.

We nearly let you forget about beatthedeck for a moment, but he’d been cruising right along, picking up a lot of pots with not a lot of showdowns. He’d chipped up over 56 million (of the 127 million in play) when another all-in pot developed preflop. The aforementioned Janela86 three-bet shoved with Aâ™  Qâ™  , and beatthedeck made the call with his 2â™  2♦ flipping for the knockout. This one’s worth watching:

The deuce on the turn gave beatthedeck another big pot, while Janela86 was dropped from the ranks in sixth place. The first four-figure payout of the event awarded the Finn $1,375.16.

IonLiveall fell next in fifth, but we never got to see the hand that betrayed him. In three-way action, he got himself all in for 3.5bb on a 9♣ J♥ 10♠ flop. As it turned out, both beatthedeck and S0zan had flopped the nuts with their respective king-queens. Both called, and they tangled up in some split side action before the hands were tabled. When he saw the straights at showdown, IonLiveall mucked his mystery cards and received more than $2,000 for the fifth-place finish.

Komaris1202 had a good sweat on his final hand, but the result went against him. On a 6♠ 10♠ J♣ flop, komaris1202 bet out, then called the shove from egonsonnn. The former had flopped top pair with Q♥ J♠ , but egonsonnn was drawing live to the knockout with A♠ 7♠ . The Q♠ on the turn was a great drama card, and now it was komaris1202 drawing from behind for his tournament life. The 4♠ river meant no improvement for his two pair, and he was relegated to the rail in fourth place, good for $2,750.32.

S0zan was the short stack of the final three, and he managed one lucky double before succumbing. The final hand saw his A♥ 5â™  fall to egonsonn’s Aâ™  10♥ in a preflop all in. The board came J♦ 4♣ 8♥ 2â™  K♣ , and S0zan was paid out $3,437.91 as he exited in third place.

With Germany’s egonsonnn doing such strong work at the final table, he’d managed to take a very small lead over beatthedeck for the first time in hours. The two men were fairly deep as they prepared to duel, but play was quickly paused.

egonsonnn: even chop?

The numbers were run, and both men took a chip-equity chop of just over $6,000 apiece, leaving the requisite $500 on the table.

beatthedeck: heads up for the cool hat 🙂

It took just a few more hands to end the event. Despite his long suffering atop the chip counts, beatthedeck could not find the cards to close out the match. Egonsonnn turned on the heat and began pounding his way to a sizable chip lead. He won nine pots in a row at one point. It was only a few minutes of battering before a big coin flip ended the tournament in fitting fashion — egonsonnn’s 10♦ 10♣ against beatthedeck’s Aâ™  K♥ .

The board, please: 9♠ 4♦ 5♦ Q♣ 6♦

It looked for a long time like beatthedeck would be unstoppable in Event #12, but he was forced to settle for a consolation prize of $6,022.02. Egonsonnn managed to turn the tides in a big way, and it’s the German who’s been crowned the newest MicroMillions II champion!
