The 40th event on the MicroMillions II docket was the $5.50 NL Hold’em 6-Max Turbo Knockout. The “Knockout” portion of the title meant that $1 from each entry served as a bounty on that player’s tournament life. The rest of the moniker — “6-Max Turbo” — ensured a rapid pace and a plethora of action for the duration.

A total of 15,503 entries put more than $62,000 in the prize pool. A great crowd, indeed. Less than six hours later, it was over. Julian013 was the last player standing, earning the top prize of $7,843.43 and the champion’s bragging rights.

The Team PokerStars family posted an unfortunate goose egg in Event #40. Henrique “Henrique.P” Pinho and Andre “acoimbra” Coimbra could not finesse their respective ways into the money. The two red spades were cut down in the middle of the field.

The top of the leader board became quite a transient place to be as things plowed on toward the final table. Canada’s godoftrips was the first to breach the 10-million-chip mark, but he could not hold the lead for long. A trio of Eastern Europeans traded around the top position as the final few tables were broken, but they too had some trouble hanging on to those chips.

Russia’s Taras280283 was one of those with a fleeting big stack, but the efforts came up one spot short of a final table appearance. When the final six players did assemble around the last table, they stacked up thusly:

Seat 1: RRKKRR (Bulgaria) – 10,067,512
Seat 2: godoftrips (Canada) – 8,159,872
Seat 3: calc33 (Canada) – 6,490,248
Seat 4: Julian013 (Colombia) – 25,979,007
Seat 5: teeare23 (Australia) – 16,993,572
Seat 6: pastierik (Slovakia) – 8,824,789

On the second hand, an action flop brought about a huge pot between teeare23 and RRKKRR. The two got it all in on an A♠ K♣ J♣ flop, and teeare23 was in the lead with A♥ 10♠ . RRKKRR was a bit of a dog, but he was more than content to risk it all with A♣ 8♣ . The flush came right in on the 4♣ turn, and the pot of nearly 20 million went to the clubs.

That dented teeare23 and put the Bulgarian within striking distance of the chip leader. But Julian013 would maintain control of that top spot nearly wire-to-wire.

The remainder of the tournament took only a few hands, but they were played out over the course of nearly an hour on the clock. Several attempts at making a deal ate up big chunks of the time, and it was initially a futile effort for the four shorties. Godoftrips was the most aggressive in the talks, and he didn’t exactly have a big chip stack backing him up.

godoftrips: split the money with the winner getting an extra 1000

That wasn’t a good suggestion at all, but it was one the four short stacks quickly agreed on.

pastierik: ok 1000 for winner
teeare23: not going to disagree on this one
calc33: good deal
calc33: 6 way split with 1000 for the winner
teeare23: I agree

When the event host typed the proposed payout numbers into the box, the chip leader finally made his opinion clear.

Julian013: NOT

Some 20 minutes after the clock was paused, the six were back in action with no deal reached.

Calc33 was eliminated immediately thereafter when his A♣ K♥ fell to pastierik’s 8♦ 9♥ . The board ran 8â™  4♣ 3♦ Jâ™  8♣ , and calc33 was out in sixth place with a payout of more than $750.00. Godoftrips once again proposed they pause to talk numbers, but his chatter was interrupted by a flurry of action. And he himself was the primary beneficiary. The Canadian promptly picked up J♦ J♣ against pasteirik’s 9♣ 9♥ to double into second place.

godoftrips: deal
godoftrips: dealdeal

He tried yet again. No luck. And there was an all-in hand playing out as he typed. Teeare23 open-shoved with K♥ 6♥ and the short stack in the small blind. Pastierik made the quick call with 4♥ 4♠ . The Q♠ 2♠ 3♥ 9♦ 7♥ board ushered teeare23 to the rail in fifth place with more than $1,250.00.

We don’t mean to belabor the point, but godoftrips was still very much insistent on a deal. The final four players once again agreed to pause the game and run the numbers. After another 15 minutes of discussions, they finally found a deal that made everyone happy, and the treaty was finalized. There was no slowing the action that followed.

RRKKRR was the shortest of the four stacks by then, and he wasted no time shoving it in there with K♣ 10♠ on the button. Godoftrips had been dealt A♣ 9♥ in the small blind, and the dealer provided them some good drama.

The ace on the river was the last card of RRKKRR’s tournament, out in fourth place for $4,223.48. That’s certainly a respectable pay jump from fifth to fourth, and he earned more than third-place money for his bargaining (and poker) skills. That bottom podium spot went to pastierik, along with $3,685.59. The stacks were relatively even when Slovakian three-bet shoved with A♣ 9♣ , and Julian013 called all in with Aâ™  Kâ™  . There was no funny stuff on the 4♦ A♦ 4♣ 2♣ K♥ board, and pastierik was unable to work any short-stacked magic. Godoftrips eliminated him on the following hand with Q♦ 8♣ out-kicking J♦ 8♥ to finish off the stack.

When heads-up play began, the chip counts looked like so:

Seat 2: godoftrips 33,319,436
Seat 4: Julian013 43,195,564

The duel was quick and painful for godoftrips. He lost every pot of any significance, and his heads-up chip trend was steeply downward. He’d been reduced down under 20 million chips when he three-bet shoved J♣ 9♥ . Julian013 snapped with A♦ 2♦ , and the 7â™  A♥ Q♣ flop all but ended it. The pesky 10♥ hit fourth street, though, and there was suddenly a good sweat with one card to come.

River: 5♦

Unable to get over the hump, godoftrips was sent off as the runner-up. Fighting for that deal ended up costing him a bit of money in the end, but he didn’t seem to mind at all as he pocketed $5,081.57.

Everyone went home happy from Event #40, it seems, but none happier than Julian013. His prize for collecting all the chips was $7,843.43 and the enviable title of Champion.
