We’re done for day 1B at the Macau Poker Cup, and the pattern set yesterday was followed almost exactly again today. That means a healthy starting field (today’s 148 following yesterday’s 110), an almighty culling through ten-and-a-half levels of play (we ended with 41 today and 28 yesterday) and a dominant chip-leader.

Today’s top dog was Ling Kay “Tomaz” Yip of Hong Kong, whose 185,300 was not quite the mark set yesterday by Jordan Westmorland. But it was a pretty good effort under the circumstances. There were some excellent players out there today.

Yip emerged late on with that huge stack of chips, more even than Xujun Huang of China, whose 120,100 at close was the mostly the result of some amazing early levels. Huang was pegged back as the day wore on, but must still be happy with his tally at this stage.

Two of poker’s most glittering lights came out in Macau as well today, in the forms of the Team PokerStars Pro Asia duo of Celina Lin and Vivian Im. Both of them lasted throughout and endured fluctuating fortunes.

Lin was up to about 50,000 at one point, then found herself next to Yip for a lot of the latter stages. She finished with 38,300 which is still more than average.

Im was also up to the dizzy heights of the high 50,000s mid-way through the day, but she was one of three people who flopped a straight with king-ten on a board of 9♣ J♣ Q♣ . It just so happened that another one of those – Chul Park of Korea – had K♣ 10♣ for the straight flush. Yeah, that’s pretty much unbeatable.

Im finished with 17,900, and can start again on Sunday. Park, however, is close on the shoulders of the leaders. He has 119,700.

So yet again it was a terrific and unpredictable day chasing the Red Dragon. The full list of counts from today’s survivors can be seen on the chip-count page.

And we’ll be back tomorrow, at 2.10pm local time, for coverage of the final day one flight. That will be significantly larger than both we have seen so far.

Everyone is now drifting off to bars, restaurants or to bed. But the wise choice is to tune into the second half of England v Sweden at Euro 2012, right? Am I right? Who’s in?

Oh.

Goodnight.
