Norberto Korn won the HK$5,500 Main Event after beating the 277-player field. The Top 32 players cashed for a share of the HK$1,249,408 prize pool with Korn receiving almost HK$300,000 for his victory.

New champion: Noberto Korn

Daniel Laidlaw was the most recognizable player on the final table but the Aussie poker pro ultimately fell in fourth place.

At the end it was Korn heads up against China’s Minggeng Bo for the title.

The final hand began innocently enough with both players limping in to see a flop of 5♦ J♠ K♥ .

Korn would check-call Bo’s bet of 30,000 and the 10♥ landed on the turn. That’s when the fireworks began.

Korn checked once again but would then raise Bo’s 70,000 bet to 150,000. Bo moved all-in (376,000) for his remaining chips and was quickly called.

Bo tabled 10♣ 5♣ for two-pair but was well behind Korn’s straight Qâ™  9♣ .

The river bricked a meaningless 6♥ to send the 45-year Argentinian to the winners circle.

NOTABLES

Team PokerStars Pro Celina Lin finished in fourth place in the HK$10,000 NLH event. It was her 27th final table on the all-time list in Official Asia Player of the Year events. She now reclaims the No. 1 spot for both final tables (27) and points (12,794) after Raiden Kan (26 final tables, 12,732 points) temporarily took the lead last month.

Winfred Yu won his first career tournament in Event 3, the HK$3,000 NLH tournament. Yu had a strong showing in the Platinum Series overall with three cashes and two final tables netting him HK$135,200 (USD $17,445). Yu, known for high stakes poker in Macau, has lifetime earnings of more than USD $1.3m so the prize money hardly affects him. But certainly the victory is a monkey off his back after a dozen recorded trips to the final table without a title.

KC Wong ended last year with a season-best nine final tables – just one short of the record (10). After his third place finish in Event 5 he once again leads the final table count with three on the early season.
