Home / Uncategorized / PCA 2013: Five players turning ten dollars into PCA history

When you turn $10 in a PokerStars satellite into a PCA package worth $16,000, you’ve essentially already won. Yours is a trip to the Bahamas, where you’ll stay in a luxury hotel and play poker against some of the best players in the world. For a lot of people that’s reward enough.

But then, there’s that additional charm, the chance that the first win will lead to a second much bigger one, an almighty one in fact, the result of a deep run in the main event and a shot at the $9,573,900 prize pool.

If you think that’s all fantasy it is in fact the current position of five players in the main event field, who stand to make it the spin up of a lifetime. Each of them found their way to the Caribbean for $10 and each is still in contention for a first prize of $1,859,000.

  • Ronald James, UK
  • George Clyde-Smith, UK
  • Pedro Quinche, Colombia
  • Anthony Borde, Netherlands
  • Nicolas Godoy, Argentina

For these guys the PCA could prove to be their breakthrough. Of the five, only Clyde-Smith has had live results before, all of which were in the UK and Ireland where his biggest was fifth place in UKIPT Edinburgh back in 2011. Success here for Clyde-Smith, who at least looks like a veteran in hoodie and cap, would top all of that.

Each of them currently stands to earn at least €39,000 for the week’s efforts, but have their eyes on a bigger prize. Clyde-Smith is best placed, with more than 1.5 million, while James, Quinche and Borde have about average.

Of all of them Nicolas Godoy arguably looked the most dangerous this week, leading the event after Day 2 before dropping back a little yesterday. The 19-year-old has impressed most of the players he’s come up against and regardless of the outcome here looks set to be back on the poker circuit soon, with our without a chaperone.

So $10 into $1.8 million? Wait and see.

STOP: Godoy has just busted before the break in 37th position.
