Zamani’s the champ!

5:55pm: It’s all over! Zamani defeats Nitsche, out in 2nd ($606,360)
Level 26 – Blinds 30,000/60,000 (BB ante 50,000)

This fast-paced heads-up match has come to an end.

Dominik Nitsche limped the button and Martin Zamani raised it up to 360,000. Nitsche called to bring an A♣T♦7♥ flop, and Zamani continued for 300,000. Nitsche stuck around.

The 9♦ hit the turn and Zamani set Nitsche all in for his last 800,000 or so. Nitsche didn’t seem too happy with the situation, but made the call.

Nitsche contemplates a call

He had Jâ™ 9â™  for a pair and a gutshot, up against Zamani’s A♦7♦ for two pair. The 2♥ completed the board, bricking for Nitsche and giving Zamani the win.

Nitsche banks $606,360, while Zamani takes it down for $895,110.

“Good game buddy,” Nitsche said afterwards. “Thanks man, that was fun!” Zamani replied. “It was pretty fun, yeah,” said Nitsche.

That’s it for our High Roller coverage, but the Main Event coverage continues right here.

Zamani takes it down

5:45pm: Zamani expands his lead
Level 26 – Blinds 30,000/60,000 (BB ante 60,000)

Dominik Nitsche’s stack is down to 30 big blinds now.

Nitsche opened for 180,000 on the button and Martin Zamani called in the big blind. They both checked the Qâ™ 5♣Jâ™  flop and Zamani checked again on the T♥ turn. Nitsche fired 625,000 and Zamani, after using a time bank card, called. Then they both checked the 7â™  river, Zamani showed A♥9â™ , and Nitsche mucked with 1.8 million chips left. –JK

5:38pm: Zamani grinding but Nitsche doubling
Level 25 – Blinds 25,000/50,000 (BB ante 50,000)

Martin Zamani has been grinding away at Dominik Nitsche’s stack. That’s all been wiped out now as Nitsche just doubled.

He opened to 150,000 on the button and Zamani defended to see a T♣8♦4♥ flop. It checked to the raiser and Nitsche continued for 175,000, before Zamani check-raised to 900,000. Nitsche jammed for 1.34 million, and Zamano snap-called.

“Six-seven. The double gutter,” said Zamani as he flipped his 7♣6♥. Nitsche had top pair with 9♥Tâ™  and the board ran out 8♣3♦ to give him the double.

He’s on 2.73 million, Zamani’s on 5.37 million –JS

5:28pm: Thomas Muehloecker out in third ($404,240)
Level 25 – Blinds 25,000/50,000 (BB ante 50,000)

Just two remain.

Thomas Muehloecker limped the small blind and Martin Zamani raised it up to 250,000. Muehloecker then used a time bank before jamming for 1.05 million, and when Zamani got a count he called.

Zamani had A♥8â™  which was ahead of Muehloecker’s Kâ™ Tâ™ . It remained so after the 3♥6â™ 3♣9♣8♣ board, and Muehloecker hit the cage to collect his $404K.

Muehloecker departs

5:19pm: Muehloecker doubles through Nitsche
Level 25 – Blinds 25,000/50,000 (BB ante 50,000)

Dominik Nitsche tossed in around 700,000, enough to put Thomas Muehloecker all in for his 565,000, from the small blind. Muehloecker looked down at his cards and called quickly, not surprising when he revealed A♦K♠. Nitsche had T♣9♠ and hit a ten on the 6♣J♦T♠ flop, but the K♦ turn put Muehloecker back in front and the 5♦ river was a brick.

Muehloecker’s on 1.2 million, Nitsche dips to 1.9 million. –JS

The final three

5pm: Big hit to Muehloecker
Level 24 – Blinds 20,000/40,000 (BB ante 40,000)

Thomas Muehloecker opened to 90,000 on the button and Dominik Nitsche defended the big blind to see a 4♣A♥3♦ flop. Nitsche checked it, and Muehloecker continued for 80,000 only for Nitsche to check-raise to 250,000. Call.

The turn was the Q♣ and Nitsche continued for 400,000. Muehloecker made the call, making this pot rather large.

They saw the 5♥ complete the board and Nitsche fired for 800,000. Muehloecker snap-called, but mucked when Nitsche showed 3♠4♠.

They’re on break now, here’s how they stack up. –JS

4:45pm: Zamani continues to lead
Level 24 – Blinds 20,000/40,000 (BB ante 40,000)

We’re closing in on the end of this level and the start of another break. Martin Zamani is maintaining his lead through consistent aggression, looking to wear down his two remaining opponents. Mostly that means they’re folding early but occasionally they’ll win a hand like this one.

Zamani opened for 100,000 on the button and Thomas Muehloecker called in the big blind. Muehloecker check-called 125,000 on the 2♥8♦T♥ flop and another 200,000 on the Q♠ turn. Zamani thought for a few moments on the 7♥ river before checking and Muehloecker checked behind, winning with T♦9♠ for a pair of tens.

Zamani is still on 4.4 million to Muehloecker’s 1.9 million and Dominik Nitsche’s 1.5 million. –JK

Over Zamani’s shoulder

4:38pm: Every hand action
Level 24 – Blinds 20,000/40,000 (BB ante 40,000)

Martin Zamani is opening every hand he’s dealt right now. Neither Dominik Nitsche or Thomas Muehloecker have got too involved yet though. –JS

4:25pm: More for Zamani
Level 24 – Blinds 20,000/40,000 (BB ante 40,000)

Martin Zamani made it 130,000 to go from the small blind and Dominik Nitsche defended the big, bringing a Q♥A♠6♣ flop. Both checked it, and on the 7♠ turn Zamani fired out 115,000. Call.

The T♥ completed the board and both checked. Zamani showed 8♦8♠ and Nitsche mucked it.

He’s down to 1.85 million, while Zamani’s on 4.8 million. –JS

4:10pm: Zamani’s double KO eliminates Durnegger (5th, $205,980), Bedell (4th, $265,640)
Level 24 – Blinds 20,000/40,000 (BB ante 40,000)

And then there were three.

Markus Durnegger was the shortest stack at the table and opened all-in on the button. Tom-Aksle Bedell glanced at his cards and then moved all-in for significantly more in an attempt to isolate Durnegger. And then Martin Zamani called to put both his opponents at risk.

Durnegger: 5♠5♣
Bedell: A♥9♥
Zamani: Q♣Q♠

The board ran out 2â™ 8♦3♣Jâ™ 8â™  to keep Zamani’s queens ahead, taking out Durnegger in 5th place ($205,980) and Bedell in 4th place ($265,640).

3:55pm: Gianluca Speranza out in 6th ($205,980)
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

Tom-Askel Bedell limped under the gun, and Martin Zamani followed suit one seat over. Dominik Nitsche and Thomas Muehloecker folded, and Gianluca Speranza moved all-in for his 35,000 from the small blind. Markus Durnegger then re-shoved over the top, and everyone folded.

Durnegger had Aâ™ Kâ™  against Speranza’s 7♦7♥, and Durnegger found an ace on the 9♦T♥8♣A♣2♥ board.

Speranza is off to collect $205,980, while Durnegger’s now on 675,000. –JS

Speranza’s stack in its former glory

3:50pm: Huge double for Nitsche, Speranza left with little
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

Gianluca Speranza is down to just one big blind after doubling up Dominik Nistche.

Nitsche made it 60,000 on the button and Speranza defended leading to a 3♥2♠Q♥ flop. Speranza checked and Nitsche continued for 50,000, only for Speranza to raise it to 185,000. Call.

The 5â™  hit the turn and Speranza kept firing for 220,000. Nitsche just flatted, leaving himself 470,000 behind.

The 6♣ landed on the river, Speranza jammed, and Nitsche snap-called. He had 6♦4♦ for a turned straight, while Speranza had Q♠5♥ for two pair.

Nitsche is up to 1.95 million now, while Speranza is left with just 35,000. –JS

3:44pm: Deuce deuce for Muehloecker
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

Thomas Muehloecker just doubled up through Martin Zamani, and got a little lucky to do so.

Muehloecker opened to 60,000 in the hijack and Zamani defended the big blind to bring a Q♦7♠9♣ flop. Zamani checked and Muehloecker continued for 60,000, only for Zamani to bump it up to 180,000. Muehloecker jammed for 510,000, and Zamani snap-called.

Muehloecker: A♥Q♣
Zamani: 7♦9♦

Two pair for Zamani (aka a big blind special) was beating Muehloecker’s top pair, but the board ran out with running deuces (2♦2♣) to give Muehloecker a better two pair.

“Yeah! Deuce deuce! That’s how we like it!” yelled Kilian Kramer on Muehloecker’s rail, as the Austrian is now up to 1.2 million. Zamani dropped to 3.1 million after that. –JS

3:37pm: A double for Dominik
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

Dominik Nitsche stared into the abyss. The abyss stared back. And then it handed him some chips.

Tom-Aksel Bedell opened for 60,000 under the gun and Nitsche called in the cutoff seat, bringing a 2♣2♠T♥ flop. Bedell bet 200,000 and then called with his A♦5♦ when Nitsche shoved for another 80,000 with his Q♠T♠. The 5♣ gave Bedell more outs but the K♥ kept Nitsche ahead.

Nitsche is now on 755,000 to Bedell’s 1.75 million. –JK

3:32pm: The calm before the storm
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

Things have quietened down significantly this past 20 minutes. Not much to report, but we’ll keep you posted. –JS

3:08pm: Bedell quickly snaps back
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

After losing that previous hand to Martin Zamani, Tom-Aksel Bedell has picked up some more chips to move back into second place.

He opened for 60,000 in the hijack seat and Gianluca Speranza called in the big blind. Speranza check-called 80,000 on the 7â™ 6♣4â™  flop and both players checked the 6â™  turn, bringing the 9♥ on the river. Speranza bet 180,000 there and before he finished putting his chips in the middle Bedell had already called. Speranza showed 7♦3♥ for sevens and treys, but Bedell’s T♦T♣ for tens and sixes was just a bit better.

Bedell is now back on 2 million, while Speranza slips to 750,000. –JK

3:05pm: Zamani doubles through Bedell, has dominating chip lead
Level 23 – Blinds 15,000/30,000 (BB ante 30,000)

Wow. In one of the first hands back Martin Zamani–who told us earlier he was 20 for 20 in all-ins–has doubled up through the chip leader Tom-Aksel Bedell.

Bedell made it 60,000 on the button and Zamani three-bet to 415,000 from the small blind. Back to Bedell, he set Zamani all-in and he called quickly.

Zamani: Aâ™ Kâ™
Bedell: K♦Q♠

Bedell was in bad shape and found no help on the 5♣5♥7♥T♥9♦ board. He drops down to 1.6 million, while Zamani is flying with 3.8 million.

He’s 21 for 21 now. –JS

2:40pm: Bedell had it…or did he?
Level 22 – Blinds 10,000/25,000 (BB ante 25,000)

Tom-Aksel Bedell made it 55,000 on the button and both Martin Zamani and Dominik Nitsche called out of the blinds to see a 3♥8♣6♣ flop. It checked to Bedell who continued for 80,000, and Zamani called. Nitsche then used a time bank before raising it to 300,000, and both players called.

This pot was big.

The 6♦ hit the turn and it checked to Bedell again. He fired out 450,000, and Zamani snap-folded. Nitsche took a little longer, but when Bedell began pretending to muck his hand as if he knew Nitsche was folding, Nitsche let his hand go.

“OK, I guess you got it,” he said.

“I did,” replied Bedell, who resisted the urge to show.

They’re on break now, we’ll have full counts shortly. –JS

Will Bedell muck or won’t he?

2:35pm: Bedell gets a pre-break boost
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/25,000 (BB ante 25,000)

Tom-Aksel Bedell is back in business as we approach the day’s first break.

Thomas Muehloecker opened for 55,000 in the hijack seat and picked up calls from Gianluca Speranza (cutoff), Bedell (small blind), and Martin Zamani (big blind). The first three of them checked the 9♣5♦7♠ flop and Speranza bet 65,000. Bedell and Zamani called and Muehloecker folded.

The turn was the K♥ and Bedell and Zamani checked again. Speranza fired 225,000 this time. Bedell asked to see Speranza’s stack and a few seconds later called. Zamani folded and the river was the 4♣. Bedell and Speranza both checked and Bedell showed 7♦6♥. “I would have called if you had moved all-in,” he told Speranza — and it would have been the right move, too, since Speranza ended up mucking to Bedell pair of sevens.

We’ll have updated chip counts for you momentarily when our players go on break. –JK

Tom-Aksel Bedell: having a good day

2:20pm: Huge double for Zamani, takes chip lead
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/25,000 (BB ante 25,000)

Martin Zamani made it 55,000 to go on the button, and was three-bet to 220,000 by Thomas Muehloecker in the big blind. Zamani quickly announced all in for 1.19 million, and Muehloecker snapped it off.

Zamani: A♠5♦
Muehloecker: Q♦Q♣

Zamani hit an ace on the A♥2♣7♣6♥8♦ board and doubles to 2.4 million, while Muehloecker suffers a huge blow and drops to 1.01 million.

“I just want to say I’m now 20 for 20 in all-ins,” Zamani told the Blog afterwards, with a sheepish grin. –JS

2:05pm: Muehloecker retakes the lead from Bedell
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/25,000 (BB ante 25,000)

Tom-Aksel Bedell’s day is going well, but not quite as well as before he lost this pot to Thomas Muehloecker.

Muehloecker opened for 55,000 in the hijack seat and got calls from Bedell (small blind) and Martin Zamani (big blind). Bedell checked the Q♠Q♣A♠ flop, as did Zamani; Muehloecker bet 70,000, Bedell raised to 265,000, Zamani folded, and Muehloecker called.

The turn was the A♦ and this time Bedell led for 370,000. Muehloecker called once more. Bedell slowed down on the 3♦ river and Muehloecker, after using a time bank card, took down the pot with a bet of 700,000.

Muehloecker is leading once again with 2.65 million, while Bedell slips to 1.76 million. –JK

1:38pm: Zamani doubles
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

Martin Zamani just found a great spot to double his short stack.

Gianluca Speranza made it 45,000 under the gun and Zamani jammed the button for 475,000. Speranza called with Tâ™ T♣, trailing Zamani’s J♥J♦ which held up.

He’s up to a million now, while Speranza dips to 1.05 million. –JS

1:35pm: Speranza collects from Zamani
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

Gianluca Speranza kicked this one off with 45,000 cutoff open, called by Markus Durnegger on the button and Martin Zamani in the big blind. The flop fell 7♥Q♦8♣ and it checked through to the 4♣ turn.

Zamani then led out for 80,000, which only Speranza matched to see the 9â™  complete the board. Zamani led out again for 150,000 and Speranza called quickly. He showed A♣9♣ for a turned flush draw that paired on the river, and that was best against Zamani’s A♦4♥.

Zamani’s down to 360,000, Speranza’s up to 1.55 million. –JS

1:30pm: Muehloecker pushes off Durnegger
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

Thomas Muehloecker opened to 45,000 on the button and his only caller was Markus Durnegger in the big blind. They both checked the 7♥Q♣J♥ flop, leading to the 2♣ turn.

Durnegger led out 45,000 which Muehloecker called, bringing the Jâ™  river, pairing the board. Durnegger fired again for 60,000, but Muehlocker raised to 330,000 after using all of his 30-second shot clock.

Durnegger let it go, and drops to 1.3 million. Muehloecker’s up to 2.05 million. –JS

Sean Winter opened for 100,000 in the lojack seat and Tom Aksel-Bedell called in the cutoff. Martin Zamani then made it 270,000 to go on the button, which prompted an all-in bet from Winter and a re-shove from Bedell. Zamani cleared out to set up our showdown:

Bedell: A♣A♥
Winter: A♠T♥

The board fell K♣3♥4â™ 4♣9♦, ending Winter’s tournament with a $152,460 cash. Bedell is now on 2.2 million. –JK

1:22pm: Davidi Kitai out in 8th ($112,040)
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

In one of the first hands of the final table, we’ve lost Davidi Kitai.

After Thomas Muehloecker opened to 45,000 in the lojack, Kitai jammed for 165,000 in the cutoff. It folded back to Muehloecker and he made the call with J♦T♦, which needed help versus Kitai’s Q♦Q♣.

The Tâ™ K♦8♣5♣Jâ™  runout was nasty for Kitai, who saw Muehloecker river two pair to send him packing. He’ll collect $112,040 as a consolation, while Muehloecker’s now playing 1.7 million. –JS

Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

This has been an action-packed opening half hour.

Sam Greenwood opened to 45,000 under the gun (or in the hijack, if you’d prefer) and Tom-Aksel Bedell called in the cutoff. Martin Zamani defended his big blind to bring a Q♣2â™ 4♣ flop, on which both Zamani and Greenwood would check.

Bedell led for 75,000 and Zamani called, and Greenwood used a time bank before announcing all in for 580,000. Bedell called quickly, and Zamani folded showing T♠T♦.

Greenwood had the best of it with Aâ™ Q♦, while Bedell was drawing with K♣9♣. The A♦ turn improved Greenwood to two pair, but the 5♣ river completed Bedell’s flush.

Greenwood will collect $89,320 for his efforts, while Bedell now has the chip lead with 1.74 million.

1:05pm: Durnegger melts Silver in 10th
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

Max Silver came back short to start today. Now he’s out after raising to 160,000 in the small blind and calling off his remaining chips when Markus Durnegger jammed in the big blind. Durnegger’s Aâ™ Jâ™  was ahead of Silver’s Qâ™ 7♥ and remained there after the A♦3♦2♥9♣9â™  runout, eliminating Silver in 10th.

12:55pm: Kerber KO’d by Greenwood ($75,080)
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

Just seconds after we lost Nick Petrangelo in 12th, Brazil’s Kelvin Kerber has fallen in 11th.

He open-shoved for 230,000 on the button with A♠T♠ and was called by Sam Greenwood in the big blind with an inferior A♦6♦. The board was kind to Greenwood though, and he turned a pair on the K♥8♠4♣6♠9♦ runout.

Greenwood’s on 830,000 now. –JS

12:52pm: Speranza finishes off Petrangelo ($65,440)
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

Nick Petrangelo has become the first player to fall here today.

Gianluca Speranza opened to 45,000 in the cutoff and it folded to Petrangelo in the big blind. He defended, leaving himself just 85,000 behind. He’d jam it all in after the K♥K♣7♦ flop, and Speranza snap-called with 8♥8♦. Petrangelo held 7♣5♥ having flopped a seven, but he couldn’t improve after the 3♣T♣ turn or river.

Speranza is up to 1.3 million now. –JS

Petrangelo picked off early

12:40pm: Speranza takes most of Petrangelo’s stack
Level 21 – Blinds 10,000/20,000 (BB ante 20,000)

As the headline says, Gianluca Speranza is off to a good start today at Nick Petrangelo’s expense.

Petrangelo raised to 45,000 in the cutoff and Speranza defended his big blind, bringing a J♣K♠T♠ flop. Speranza check-called 70,000 there and both players checked the J♦ turn. Speranza checked again on the 8♦ river and Petrangelo used most of his shot clock before betting 260,000, about 60 percent of his total stack. Speranza used a time bank card before announcing himself all-in and Petrangelo snap-folded.

Petrangelo is down to 155,000 now, while Speranza is on 1.05 million. –JK

Welcome back to our coverage of the $25,000 buy-in High Roller here at the PCA 2019. Only 12 players are still in contention (catch up on yesterday’s action here), and as this is the final day of the festival, we’re guaranteed to find a champion today.

There’s $895K reserved for the champ

Austria’s Thomas Muehloecker leads the pack, closely followed by his fellow countryman Markus Durnegger. We’ve also got Sam Greenwood still in the hunt, looking for his second flagship high roller title of this trip. If he can win both it will be a mighty achievement for the Canadian.
