Spin & Go 10 winner
Thirty-six-year-old René Bergeron has won a few thousand bucks in the 10 years or so he’s been playing poker, but he is still more proud of his business achievements than anything he has managed playing cards. Bergeron is a carpenter who set up his own company doing commercial renovations and now employs seven people at his firm in Quebec, Canada.
Bergeron heads to the PSPC, which will be his first major live tournament, after winning his Platinum Pass in the Spin & Go 10 promotion. That means he picked up a ticket to a freeroll after playing 10 Spin & Go tournaments on PokerStars.fr before winning through to the big bash in Barcelona. He is planning to take his girlfriend along with him to the tournament this August.
A keen golfer and hockey fan, Bergeron picked up poker in the years following Chris Moneymaker’s WSOP victory from watching the game on TV. However even now there must be a part of him that wishes the 2003 final table went in another direction: Bergeron names Sammy Farha, defeated so memorably by Moneymaker, as his favourite player.
