On this week’s Poker In The Ears, Joe and James recap the results of the Global Poker Awards and keep us updated on the live and online poker world. They are joined by Jonathan Little, winner of the people’s choice for Poker Personality of the Year, as well as a surprise guest brought on by Joe.

The podcast begins with a discussion on this week’s Superfan subject, Battlefield Earth, a film so bad that James had to watch it in four sittings. After James slates the movie for all it’s worth, Joe brings on special guest J.D Shapiro (4:54). He explains the film’s link to Scientology, and how it ended up being so bad.

Joe gives us an update of his work on the upcoming film The Card Counter (16:15), as well as stories of good times playing poker with Oscar Isaac.

After an update on the coronavirus and its impact on the poker world (26:25), the boys jump in to a discussion on the Sunday Million Anniversary and the very special edition of the Sunday Storm coming up this weekend (29:42).

Then it’s on to the main topic of the podcast, an event recap of the 2nd Annual Poker Awards (31:20). Check out the podcast and find out why Joe’s not very happy with one of the results!

The boys give an overview of the winners, including players of the year, top Tweeters and streamers. PokerStars had success in five categories, including the PSPC taking Event of the Year and Martin Harris winning Media Content of the Year for his book, Poker and Popular Culture.

Poker Personality of the Year winner Jonathan Little joins the show (42:42). He discusses his campaign to win the award, 15 years dedication to the poker industry, and multi-channel approach to content creation. Little poses an important question, “what are you trying to accomplish in life?”, and points to the hard work needed to get it.

Before he can leave, Joe subjects Jonathan to this week’s stupid game, “Oh, ah just a Little bit, oh, ah a Little bit more” (57:50). Then it’s time to bring on the guy responsible for choosing Battlefield Earth as a specialist topic, Superfan Darrin Curtis (1:05:00).
