Poker world survives for big PokerStars weekend

June 03, 2011

You’re still here, right? Just blink twice if you can see these words.

Thank all that’s holy. Or, to put a finer point on it, thank you Chris Moneymaker for saving the poker world once again. As I mentioned yesterday, the 2003 WSOP champion had the fate of the poker world in his hands in a rematch with 2003 runner-up Sammy Farha. The best-of-three match stood a coinflip’s chance of creating a metaphysical disaster that could’ve shoved us all back to the poker realm circa 2003. Fortunately, Moneymaker put on his superhero cape and saved us all from poker rapture.

So, Chris, while you might not have received any financial reward for averting a time-space-continuum catastrophe, please know you have my undying gratitude. Furthermore, there are a lot of other people who should be thanking you today. But for you saving the world, we might not be able to enjoy this huge weekend on PokerStars.

As I mentioned last Friday, the PokerStars Sunday Majors are moving their start times two hours this weekend. What’s more, all the big tournaments will have doubled guarantees.

New Sunday majors schedule

  • Sunday Kick-Off — 08:00 ET
  • Sunday Warm-Up — 11:00 ET
  • Sunday Rebuy — 12:00 ET
  • Sunday Storm — 13:30 ET
  • Sunday Million — 14:30 ET
  • Sunday 500 — 15:30 ET
  • Sunday Second Chance — 16:30 ET
  • Sunday Supersonic — 18:30 ET
  • So, remember to set those alarms. Two hours earlier. Double guarantees. That’s pretty much all you need to know.

Finally we head into the weekend, good luck to Team PokerStars Pros Humberto Brenes and Lex Veldhuis who have both made Day 3 of the WSOP Event #3 $1,500 Omaha/8 event. Veldhuis is short-stacked, but Brenes is sitting on enough chips to make yet another final table run.

Good luck, gentlemen. And if you see Chris Moneymaker, buy him a beer for me.
