It certainly seemed like a long Day 2 in this €10K High Roller, mainly because there had been a lot of changes come the end. The start-of-day chip leader now had a short stack, while the chip leader throughout much of today’s play – Christopher Kruk – will be coming into the third and final day as the shortest stack.
Roman Emelyanov was the overnight chip leader, but he couldn’t keep the momentum going overnight. While he’s still in with a shot with 16 left, it’s Spanish high roller Sergio Aido who claims the Day 2 chip lead. Aido bagged up 2,147,000, which coming back at 10K/20K blinds is huge.
The latter levels of play weren’t too kind to Christopher Kruk though. His stack had slipped from around a million, and towards the end of play he lost a big pot against Danny Tang. Kruk had bet 25,000 on a 10♠ 4♣ 2♥ flop from the big blind position, and Tang check-raised from the small blind to 76,000. Kruk made the call.
The turn brought the Q♦ and two checks, leading to the 2♠ river. Tang used up a time bank before making it a massive 243,000, and after some thinking Kruk made the call. He’d muck though when Tang showed the 10♦ 10♥ for a full house. Tang ended play with 1,593,000, which was still quite a distance from Aido’s stack.
Unfortunately for the sole red spade in the field, Team Pro’s Jake Cody was dealt a cooler that saw his stack dwindle. Hossein Ensan had checked from the big blind on an 8♦ Q♦ 9♣ flop, on which Cody bet 20,000 leaving himself little behind. Ensan called to see a 9♦ turn, and now Ensan led out for 20,000 of his own. Cody called and the river brought the 3♦ . Ensan continued for 30,000, Cody shoved, and Ensan snap-called with the 9♥ 9♠ for quads! Cody had pocket queens for queens full. Mark this one up as a brutal cooler that saw Cody bust not long after.
