Home / Uncategorized / PokerStars Festival London: Side event success for Sol, Jespersen and Nougue

Much of our focus for the past five days at The Hippodrome Casino has focused on just two events of the PokerStars London Festival. The High Roller and Main Event have taken centre stage and rightly so given their size and prestige.

However, there are 22 events in total on the schedule and while a number of the side events will play to a conclusion this weekend there’s already been side-event success for Holland, England and France.

The first event to conclude was the No Limit PokerStars Super Deep, which attracted an amazing 399 runners who created a near £100,000 prize pool. The final six players elected to chop what was left in the prize pool and they then played on for the title. “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself’ is one of the 10 commandments but as we all know there are no friends at the poker tables, although there are often neighbours (the players on your left and right). The heads-up battle was made even more interesting because real life neighbours, Sander Sol and Eike Stephan were facing off for the title.

In the end, it was Sol who prevailed to claim the win, the trophy and the first prize of £9,876. Stephan took £7,756 for his runner-up finish. The victory was even sweeter for Sol as his Dad railed him to victory. Willie Tann (10th, £1,410), Charles Chattha (38th, £570), Leon Louis (69th, £380) and Chris Gordon (79th, £380) were just some of the notables to cash in that event.

Next up was a £150 no-limit Hold’em turbo, in which the top 15 divvied up the £12,367 prize pool. David Docherty fell just short of the final table but took £310 for an 11th place finish. Jason Beazley, who finished 3rd at UKIPT4 Edinburgh, went one better here but couldn’t seal the deal. The trophy and £2,822 first prize went to Nikolaj Jespersen, with Beazley taking £2,150 for his runner-up finish.

Last, but not least, a £150 freezeout no-limit Hold’em turbo Win the Button event has come and gone. The popular format, in which the winner of the pot gets the button on the following hand, attracted 108 entries in total. The top 20 finishers recieved a slice of the £16,200 prize pool, with £3,270 reserved for the winner. That princely sum went to Antoine Nougue, the Frenchman defeated Fabio Miranda heads-up, while Joe Hindy (sixth) also made the final table.
