Welcome back to City of Dreams Manila! We have a huge day in store inside the Grand Ballroom with both the High Roller Day 2 and the Main Event Day 1A spread across the tournament floor.

The High Roller began at 1pm and the field swelled from 35 last night to 47 before late registration closed out after the first level of play today. Those entries generated a total prize pool of PHP9,118,000 with PHP3,100,000 (~$61,500) going to the eventual winner.

When players bagged up on Day 1 it was Israel’s Tom Jonathan Or-Paz who had climbed the highest, but within just an hour of starting today he had already found himself knocked down from 219,000 to right around 50,000. Or-Paz was then at risk with his king queen versus ace queen on a queen high board but a lucky king on the river saved the Day 1 chip leaders tournament life. Not long later Or-Paz lost a chunk of those chips back to Sathesh Muthu and as of right now he sits with 55,000.

After taking that pot and many others Muthu is currently leading the way with 290,000 in chips and only 24 players remaining. We’ll be following to see if he can hold the spot of frontrunner or if someone else will usurp the throne. Check back with us later in the day for a High Roller update.

On the other side of the Grand Ballroom the Main Event is also underway. PokerStars LIVE’s Rex Cheong welcomed players before cards went in the air and 54 have already pulled up seats. The PHP215,000 event boasts a PHP2 million guarantee and with two more Day 1 flights we’re expecting a big influx of players at some point.

The High Roller seems to have attracted most of the notables but we’ve still spotted a few familiar faces in the Main Event. 2012 APPT Cebu champion Hoang Anh Do is at the tables, along with the likes of Michael Falcon, Kunal Patni and Aditya Sushant.
