The High Roller is kicking on now and we’re up to a total field size of 20 runners so far. While they battle it out on the felt, let’s take a moment away from the table to check out some of the local cuisine that City of Dreams and Manila has to offer.

Actually, the players don’t even have to leave the action, with nearby restaurant Red Ginger delivering orders right to their seats. Open 24 hours a day – just in case you’re into the tail end of an epic session – Red Ginger is described as a “high volume, affordable, contemporary restaurant” specializing in popular Southeast Asian dishes.

Using this article as an excuse to check it out, myself and photographer Long Guan headed over to Red Ginger strictly to conduct some research. Greeted by very friendly staff we were ushered to comfortable lounge chairs to peruse the menu. It featured items such as Mee Goreng Mamak, Char Kway Teow and Sambal Balado Squid but we opted for Nasi Goreng Jakarta and Indonesian-style Angus Beef Cheek Rendang.

Nasi Goreng translates to ‘fried rice’ in Indonesian but the dish also included satay chicken skewers, a fried egg, prawn crackers and pickled vegetables. All for just PHP440 ($8 .75) it was exceptionally great value – particularly inside a casino complex. Manila is renowned for reasonable rates and world-class hospitality, and Red Ginger delivered both in abundance.

A few players in the High Roller seem to be making the most of Red Ginger’s catering as plates can be spotted all around the tournament floor tonight. And on top of the food and non-alcoholic drinks there are also beer, wine and spirits available. That means whether you’re commiserating a bad beat or celebrating bagging up a stack at the end of the day, don’t worry, they have you covered.

Perhaps the best part, Red Ginger is just one of 23 bars and restaurants within City of Dreams Manila, and we look forward to diving into some more diligent research here this week. Come for the poker, stay for the Philippine cuisine, here at PokerStars Festival Manila.
