2014 has been kind to Ami Barer. Three months ago the 22 year-old Canadian was a hemisphere away, hoisting the Aussie Millions Main Event trophy and pondering how to invest the $1.4 million stacked in front of him. In the interim, he’s made three final tables in side events on the EPT including a runner-up finish in a €2,000 NLHE Deepstack only eleven days ago. Barer may be hitting his stride live, but for years he’s been an online beast, amassing over $6 million in career MTT earnings. He won his first SCOOP title in Omaha Hi/Lo back in 2012 and tonight he won a watch for his other wrist, taking down a marathon NLHE 6-max shootout for over $95,000.

Two-time SCOOP champ Ami “UhhMee” Barer

216 players entered Event #19-H, their $2,100 buy-ins combining to form a $432,000.00 prize pool. All 36 players who won their first-round tables guaranteed themselves a share of it with first place set to earn $95,040.00. Eight Red Spades were in the mix, Team Pros Nacho Barbero, Eugene Katchalov, ElkY, Angel Guillen, Maxim Lykov and George Danzer along with Team Online’s Naoya “nkeyno” Kihara and Marc-Andre “FrenchDawg” Ladouceur. Unfortunatley, all were eliminated at their first-round tables.

It took more than five and a half hours for the first shootout round to completely play out. With 35 players already safely in the money, RSRMCA and marroca5 were still heads-up and neither would go quietly. RSRMCA had marroca5 on the ropes so many times his elimination felt inevitable, but after well over an hour of sparring, marroca5 evened their stacks once again when he doubled to 15,000 with A♣ J♦ vs. K♣ J♣ . Marroca5 dealt another blow to RSRMCA when he picked off a two-street bluff with only third pair. RSRMCA only had queen high and marroca5 took the lead with 21,300. A few hands later RSRMCA three-bet shoved for 5,980 with A♦ 4♠ , but marroca5 was lying in wait with A♣ J♠ . RSRMCA did not improve and was the last player eliminated from the first round while marroca5 made the final 36, and the money.

In the second round, marocca5’s heads-up match was again the last one to finish. Although marocca5 began heads-up play with a 24,000 to 6,000 chip advantage over leopeluca, their skirmish wouldn’t be settled for another three hours. They started off with 80/160 blinds and well into the 300/600 level their stacks were still dead even. At last all the money went in preflop, marroca5’s 5♥ 5♣ up against A♣ 10â™  . Marroca5 survived the 9â™  8♦ 2♥ flop, but leopeluca hit the J♦ on the turn and the Qâ™  on the river to make a straight. Crippled to 1,604 in chips, marroca5 moved in two hands later, his 9♦ 3♥ falling to leopeluca’s 9♥ 4♣ to end his run on the final table bubble.

Seat 4: pablotenisis (5,000 in chips)
Seat 5: treezer (5,000 in chips)
Seat 6: leopeluca (5,000 in chips)

Myzikant makes an early exit

Back to 5,000 chips went the stacks as final table host Marc-Andre “FrenchDawg” Ladouceur congratulated the final six on making it this far. Hneves182 confessed to taking a nap while waiting for the second round to end and pablotenisis had a suggestion to make this one go a lot quicker.

FrenchDawg (TeamOnline): Sick heads up
FrenchDawg (TeamOnline): Congrats everybody on making the SCOOP 6-max shootout Final Table!
leopeluca: ty
FrenchDawg (TeamOnline): I’ll be your host, let me know if need help with anything
pablotenisis: hey marc, can you raise the blinds to 500/1000?
FrenchDawg (TeamOnline): yeah coming right up

Quite easily, it could have been a couple of hours before the final table lost its first player. However, before the first level was finished, myzikant four-bet preflop to 825 and UhhMee called. UhhMee check-called 675 on the 9♦ 5♣ 2♥ flop and passed again when the 7♣ turned. Myzikant bet 975, UhhMee raised to 1,950 and myzikant shoved for 3,500 total. UhhMee called and turned up the nuts, 6♥ 8♥ , while myzikant revealed J♥ Jâ™  . The river 10♦ improved UhhMee to a ten-high straight and myzikant was left with only 87 in chips. Although myzikant tripled up on the next hand, he was eliminated in sixth place moments later when his J♣ 9♣ did not improve vs. hneves182’s K♣ 7♦ .

UhhMee knocks out two in a single hand

UhhMee took the chip lead with 9,876 and if the first level was good to him, the second was even better. With the blinds at 30/60, hneves182 opened for 125, UhhMee called from the small blind and pablotenisis called from the big. UhhMee led out for 269 on the Jâ™  7â™  4â™  flop and both opponents called. The turn came the 6♦ and all hell broke loose. UhhMee checked, pablotenisis bet 591, hneves182 called and UhhMee shoved for 8,964. Pablotenisis called all-in for 1,465, putting hneves182 to a tough decision. His timebank ticking away, hneves182 finally called off his remaining 5,296 and turned up 6â™  9â™  – a jack-high flush. It was drawing dead for the main pot against pablotenisis’s Kâ™  2â™  , but he wasn’t out of the woods either. UhhMee revealed Aâ™  6♥ for the nut flush draw and hit one of his six outs on the river with the 8â™  to eliminate both opponents. Palotenisis was the shorter stack to start the hand and finished fifth ($25,920.00) while hneves182 took fourth ($34,560.00).

treezer squeezed out in third

After his double KO, UhhMee was up to 18,089. However, with the blinds only up to 30/60, even short stack treezer had 89 BB. Treezer, however, slipped to 3,300 in chips when UhhMee five-bet shoved preflop and he gave up his hand. A short time later, with the blinds 40/80, treezer opened for a min-raise to 160 on the button and UhhMee shoved for 18,700 from the big blind. Treezer called all-in, his A♦ 10♦ leading UhhMee’s K♣ Qâ™  . Treezer made top pair on the Aâ™  Q♣ J♥ flop, but UhhMee’s run-good struck again when the Q♥ turned. The river was the 9â™  and treezer hit the rail in third place, good for $49,680.00.

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 3: UhhMee (21,347 in chips)
Seat 6: leopeluca (8,653 in chips)

UhhMee brought a 2.5 to 1 chip lead into heads-up play and maintained it over the first half hour, but leopeluca soon closed the gap. The blinds up to 50/100, leopeluca min-raised the button and UhhMee called. The flop fell 6â™  7♦ 9♦ and UhhMee led out for 275. Leopeluca called. The turn came the 4â™  and UhhMee checked over to leopeluca, who bet 525. UhhMee came in with a raise to 1,917 and leopeluca called. UhhMee checked again when the 5â™  rivered and leopeluca bet 2,825. UhhMee called, but couldn’t beat leopeluca’s king-high flush with Kâ™  8â™  .

Both players hovered between 12,000 and 17,000 in chips apiece for the next hour. Their stacks were nearly even when UhhMee won two pots in succession to take a 2 to 1 lead. The blinds were 100/200 when leopeluca opened for 400 and UhhMee called from the big blind. After checking down a Q♦ 7♠ 4♠ flop, UhhMee bet 570 when the 2♦ turned and leopeluca raised to 1,500. UhhMee called and the Q♥ came on the river. Both players checked and UhhMee took down the pot with J♦ 7♥ for two pair. A few hands later, UhhMee led the turn and river on a K♥ 10♦ 10♣ 2♦ 6♦ board after checking the flop. Leopeluca called him down and UhhMee turned up Q♦ 5♦ for a flush.

UhhMee moved up to 20,000 in chips but leopeluca ground back to even by the time they reached the 125/250 level. Now it was leopeluca’s turn to take a 2 to 1 lead, which he did when his A♥ 2â™  turned two pair against UhhMee’s Aâ™  J♣ . However, UhhMee quickly evened things up again when he twice forced leopeluca to fold the river.

After three solid hours of heads-up play, UhhMee and leopeluca were dead even in chips at 15,000 apiece when UhhMee went on a run, winning 15 out of 17 pots to chip up to 22,000. UhhMee wore leopeluca down to 4,500 before the last of his chips went in preflop. UhhMee’s Aâ™  2â™  flopped aces up against leopeluca’s K♥ Q♦ and at last, we had a winner:

Congratulations to Ami “UhhMee” Barer on his second SCOOP title! 16 exhausting hours of poker earned him $95,040.00 while runner-up leopeluca banked $66,312.00.
