SCOOP 2014: kackvogel84 on top after five-way chop in Event #36-M ($215 NLHE Turbo, Re-Entry)

May 15, 2014

For kackvogel84, one bullet was enough. While most of the Event #36-M ($215 NLHE Turbo Re-Entry) field fired two, three, or even four times, kackvogel84 made his one and only buy-in last. Kackvogel84 made the final table as the chip leader and kept it until five players remained. With the blinds sky-high relative to the stacks, the final five made a deal to split up the rest of the prize pool, leaving $10,000 up for grabs. Kackvogel84 immediately seized control when he took out two players on a single hand and ran the table from there on out, emerging with his first SCOOP title and $105,000.00.

2,966 players made 1,804 re-entries in Event #36-M, creating a $954,000.00 prize pool. 630 places were paid with first place set to earn $149,663.52. Twenty Red Spades were in the mix, a solid majority of them using the re-entry option. Angel Guillen, ElkY, Randy “nanonoko” Lew, Liv Boeree, Naoya “nkeyno” Kihara, Jason Mercier, David Williams and Andre Akkari all used the maximum three re-entries, Team Online’s Andre Coimbra re-entered twice, and Maxim Lykov, Leo Fernandez, Nacho Barbero and Ike Haxton all fired one extra bullet. Four Red Spades made the money: Barbero (322nd), Caio Pessagno (507th), George Danzer (539th), and Haxton (607th).

Blinds were up to 70,000/140,000 on the final table bubble. The action folded around to kokynho on the button and he raised to 280,000. Chip leader kackvogel84 shoved from the small blind and kokynho called, his A♥K♣ up against A♦A♣. Kackvogel84’s aces held up and kokynho hit the rail in seventh place, sending us to the final table.

Fartojop333 falls on the first hand

On Hand #1, Arvid2k7 min-raised from middle position and puceto800 shoved for 2.58 million from the small blind. Fartojop333 cold-called all-in from the big blind and Arvid2k7 got out of the way. Fartojop333’s J♦J♠ lost the race against A♠K♥, the board running out A♦8♦7♣9♣A♥ to end his run in ninth place ($7,632.00).

puceto800 dominates WlkRamb0, SebbyGI slays airic1400

Renaton got a boost when airic1400 open-shoved for 3.55 million with A♥Q♠ and he called all-in from the big blind with A♠K♠. Renaton’s big slick held up and he doubled to 5.17 million, leaving airic1400 on only 1.1 million.

Two hands later, WlkRamb0 moved in for 972,548 from the hijack and puceto800 called from the cutoff. Puceto800’s A♠J♠ held up against A♥9♣ and WlkRamb0 was out in eighth place, collecting $11,925.00.

Only two more hands passed before SebbyGI open-shoved for 1.95 million on the button and airic1400 called all-in from the small blind. Again, A♣J♠ held up against A♥9♣ and airic1400 went out in seventh place, good for a $21,465.00 score.

Arvid2k7 eliminated in sixth place

The blinds rose to 100,000/200,000 and Arvid2k7 moved in for 1.44 million with K♦8♦. Unfortunately for him, Phantomes124 was lying in wait with A♣K♥ in the big blind. Both players made trips on the K♣3♠2♣K♠6♦ board but Phantomes124 won the kicker war and eliminated Arvid2k7 in sixth place ($31,005.00).

A five-way deal

The stacks extremely shallow at this point, the final five agreed to pause the action and discuss a potential deal. Here’s a look at their chip counts when the music stopped:

kackvogel84 – 6,035,722 (30 BB)
renaton – 5,210,908 (26 BB)
puceto800 – 4,932,667 (24.5 BB)
Phantomes124 – 4,221,146 (21 BB)
SebbyGI – 3,449,557 (17.2 BB)

Final table host Luka “LukaSteel” Kovač presented them with ICM figures. Chip leader kackvogel84 refused to deal unless he received an additional $2,500 to bring his share up to $95,000. Puceto800 also demanded a raise, requesting his share be increased from $86,246 to $90,000. SebbyGI, Phantomes124, and renaton agreed to give up $2,000 apiece to close the deal and with $10,000 still in play for the winner, cards went back in the air.

kackvogel84 knocks out two in one hand

Three hands after action resumed, Phantomes124 opened for 400,000 and SebbyGI shoved for 3.17 million from the small blind. Kackvogel84 reshoved for 6.38 million from the big and Phantomes124 called all-in. Kackvogel84’s A♦J♦ flopped an ace vs. Phantomes124’s K♠K♥ and SebbyGI’s 8♥8♦, the board running out A♣Q♠6♠7♦5♣. SebbyGI took fifth place and $73,706.64, while Phantomes124 collected $79,530.72 for fourth.

renaton takes third

Kackvogel84 lost the chip lead to puceto800 during three-handed play, but won it back when he flopped jacks full against renaton and got three streets of value. Kackvogel84 moved up to 11.2 million, leaving renaton on 2.87 million. Although renaton doubled up when his A♠J♠ flopped top pair and rivered trip aces again puceto800’s Q♥5♠, renaton was eliminated a few hands later. All-in from the small blind with K♦9♠, renaton did not improve against kackvogel84’s A♥6♦ and he departed with $85,940.78 for third place.

Heads-up chip counts

Seat 1: puceto800 (10,140,520 in chips)
Seat 8: kackvogel84 (13,709,480 in chips)

Puceto800 fell to 7.3 million in the early going, but doubled to 14.6 million when his A♣8♥ held up against kackvogel84’s A♦5♣. Kackvogel84 slipped to 9.2 million and was all but done for three hands later when he got the rest of his chips in with 8♥8♣ vs. puceto800’s 9♣9♥. However, kackvogel84 flopped an eight to make a set and doubled to 21.2 million, leaving a very unlucky puceto800 on 2.64 million.

Three hands later, kackvogel84 closed out the win when his K♣J♦ held up against puceto800’s Q♥7♠.

Congratulations to kackvogel84 on his first SCOOP title! He scored $105,000 for the win while runner-up puceto800 banked $89,777.38.
