Home / Uncategorized / SCOOP 2015: More money for m0rbeo claiming Event #15-L title

We get estimates on when a final table should start. It’s likely a complex algorithm which is usually spot-on. However, the final table for the second day of Event #15-L NLHE Progressive Super-Knockout ran a little longer than expected. This is mostly due to players piling into this tournament series and smashing every guarantee like it is a challenge. The $150K guarantee here was nearly doubled as the two prize pools alone (regular and bounty) nearly matched the over all guarantee. Well worth the overtime put in by m0rbeo to earn $12,468.59 (and $2,239.30 in bounties) after defeating NikiStar777 in a lengthy heads-up match.

Read on below for m0rbeo’s run to the title.

Day one opened the gates to a stampede of players thanks to the relatively small investment ($11.00) for a shot at $12,468.59 plus any bounties they managed to claim. Only 318 players would survive including João Mathias “joaoMathias” Baumgarten who has several Super Tuesday and COOP final tables to his credit.

Checking in with the Low Player of the Series race current leader Stroynowski would not add any points from this tournament. Second place 162636465666 took third place in last night’s Event #14 NL Single Draw 2-7 but fell short of cashing as well.

João would survive a couple of hours of day two, but bowed out in 50th place claiming more cash for bounties ($343.24) than from the regular prize pool ($163.82). Overnight chip leader RayMcCoy2019 would still plug away with an average stack after four hours as TCOOP 2015 Event #3 runner-up rounder3989 took over the chip lead with 43 remaining.

With 29 players left at the third hourly break of day two the remaining contestants enjoyed an average stack of over 45 big blinds. Rounder3989 would slip into fifth in chips as UK’s mickyb88 assumed the chip lead but second place TruePokrface held the largest bounty.

Mickeyb88 was not able to hold on to those chips finishing in 21st place ($235.90+$164.23 in bounties). Day one’s chip leader RayMcCoy2019 would also bow out in 22nd place ($235.90+$416.21 in bounties)

Fast-forward to the final two tables as the players were finally feeling the squeeze of the increasing blinds. Both rounder3989 and TruePokrface managed to continue their roll into the final table as an extended hand-for-hand play session would add a little more stress for the watch seekers.

Hopefully these folks grabbed a quick pint as hand-for-hand play started 19 minutes into the fifth hour after the re-start and would continue into the five minute hourly break.

Sure enough, I step away to pour myself one and there’s an all-in with a call on the first hand back. With the blinds up to 200K/400K ante 50K Jokz C would min-raise from the hijack seat as cuecard148 made a statement with a shove for 7.12 million. Folded around to Jokz C who covered and called holding A♣ J♦ . Cuecard148’s 6♥ A♥ was dominated and could not find the correct numbers on the 10♣ 2♥ Qâ™  2â™  4♣ board as the final table started up below:

Seat 1: NikiStar777 (23178105 in chips)
Seat 2: TruePokrface (10445889 in chips)
Seat 3: thenoise214 (14698347 in chips)
Seat 4: Caio S. G. (7689715 in chips)
Seat 5: m0rbeo (16476042 in chips)
Seat 6: ostapBend765 (25917101 in chips)
Seat 7: Jokz C (15626691 in chips)
Seat 8: rounder3989 (8960827 in chips)
Seat 9: OneTime121 (8067283 in chips)

Team PokerStars Pro Online Andre Combira would finally welcome the finalists to the spotlights with $12K waiting at the end (along with any more bounties they manage to snag).

Peaked too early?

The chip leaders from previous hours were not able to turn those chips into a SCOOP title.

First, with the blinds up to 250K/500K ante 62.5K Jokz C would lead off with a raise to 1.025 million as TruePokrface pushed all-in for 9.64 million. Big slick K♠ A♥ and plenty of chips made this an easier call and the correct one as TruePokrface showed A♠ Q♦ . No ladies on the A♣ J♦ 4♠ J♥ 2♠ board and TruePokrface was done in ninth place ($655.50+$1,285.29 in bounties).

On the next hand, Jokz C was not done yet.

The new chip leader would shove 24 million after a flop of 8♣ 7â™  6♦ . Rounder3989 was happy to get action on the pocket kings Kâ™  K♦ but would have to fade eight outs twice against Jokz C’s A♣ 9♣ . The paired board 7♥ did not help but the 10♥ river did, knocking out rounder3989 in eighth place ($1,114.01+$210.17 in bounties).

Shining bright

A leap into the 400K/800K ante 100K level would see m0rbeo making a min-raise which quickly escalated. OstapBend765 would shove 12.3 million from middle position and NikiStar777 trumped that raise for 17.2 million. The original raiser, m0rbeo, declined to continue. Pocket aces A♥ Aâ™  for NikiStar777 would stop ostapBend765’s 5♣ 5♥ on the 8♥ 2♣ Kâ™  3♣ 8♣ board to grab the chip lead. This would be ostapBend765 last stop earning ($1,638.25+$709.36) in seventh place.

Silenced

The only words flowing through the chat box to this point was Andre announcing another departure. Much like violin music playing in the movie The Godfather, Andre was back to wish someone farewell. It would be NikiStar777 doing the damage by silencing thenoise214 as pocket tens 10♦ 10♥ took down thenoise214’s A♦ 10â™  on the 4♥ 8♥ J♣ 6â™  6♣ board taking away $2,359.08+$510.54 in sixth place.

Breaking the silence

Money is good way to get people to talk but first we would need to say goodbye to one more. Five minutes after thenoise214 stepped off stage, Caio S.G. would call a min-raise by OneTime121 from the big blind. 9♦ Jâ™  4♦ flop was tempting enough for Caio S.G. to check-raise all-in. Holding the second-nut flush draw K♦ 7♦ OneTime121 made the call. No magical rivered ace of diamonds, instead the diamond hit the turn (and river) 3♦ 5♦ ending Caio S.G.’s night in fifth place ($3,538.62+$639.39) and starting up some chop talks.

At least they tried, but the brief chop discussions ended with returning the remaining money in the prize pool.

Yes a flush! NO!

It’s exciting to catch your card playing blackjack, Pai Gow, rummy, cribbage, slap jack, anything. But, it is equally defeating to see that card also helped out your opponent even more. m0rbeo’s A♣ 7♦ was trying to knock out Jokz C’s Kâ™  Jâ™  . With the board showing 7â™  9â™  Q♥ 7♣ there were plenty of live outs for some river excitement. Spades counted as an out but the Aâ™  also gave m0rbeo a full house which sent Jokz C away in fourth place ($4,718.16+$1,223.05).

One Time Chip expired

Five minutes later m0rbeo would take the tournament to heads-up play. With the blinds up to 600K/1.2MM ante 150K OneTime121 shoved over the top of m0rbeo’s min-raise holding A♣ J♦ . M0rbeo’s A♦ 9♣ was strong enough to make the call as both players paired the flop Q♥ J♥ 9♦ . The 8â™  brought a possible chopped pot but the two-outer 9â™  river sent OneTime121 home in third place ($5,897.70+$1,247.69).

NikiStar777 vs. m0rbeo

Both players showing aggressiveness during the final table pointed towards a quick ending.

m0rbeo would start off with a 71.7 million to 59.3 million chip lead 13 minutes into the ninth hour of play with blinds at 600K/1.2MM ante 150K.

At the tenth hourly break m0rbeo slightly increased the lead as players still enjoyed plenty of wiggle room for post-flop action.

NikiStar777 would make the right move but unfortunately got the wrong result. Down 43.8 million to 87.1 million and the board reading K♦ 10♥ 4♥ NikiStar777 would raise m0rbeo’s 4.1 million chip bet to ten million holding Kâ™  6♥ . M0rbeo did not believe and shoved with pocket queens Q♥ Qâ™  . NikiStar777 made the call as the third queen Q♣ hit the turn sliding the final pot, $12,468.59 and the SCOOP 2015 Event #15-L title to m0rbeo!
