One year ago, marek_heinz was in a three-handed battle for the medium buy-in SCOOP Main Event title. Although he didn’t come away with the victory that night, the $333k payday went a long way to soften the blow. Tonight, marek_heinz was back at a SCOOP final table, but had some formidable competition to withstand. Among them were Demonic16, runner-up in last year’s SCOOP $2,100 NL Omaha Hi/Lo event and Mayu “marroca5” Roca, a SCOOP and WCOOP champion who finished fourth in the EPT10 Grand Final Main Event for over half a million dollars. Marek_heinz didn’t have a big stack to start the final table, but by the time the field was down to three he had built a dominant chip lead and did not let go. After a heads-up match with shjo that lasted only a single hand, marek_heinz finally stepped onto the top of the podium and took down his first SCOOP victory in Event #19-M ($215 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo, 8-Max).
502 split-pot enthusiasts bought into Event #19-M, pushing the prize pool up to $100,400.00. 64 players earned a share of it with $19,076.00 set aside for first place.
The betting limits were up to 10,000/20,000 on the final table bubble and short stack goga1975944 opened for a raise to 20,000. Marek_heinz called from the big blind and they saw a J♦9♣3♥ flop. Marek_heinz checked, goga1975944 bet, marek_heinz raised to 20,000 and goga1975944 moved all-in for 23,214. Marek_heinz called the small balance and turned over K♠J♥7♦2♥, trailing goga1975944’s A♣A♥9♥4♦. However, the 7♣ hit the turn, making marek_heinz jacks and sevens. Goga1975944 had outs to a low, trips, or a better two pair, but the river blanked out with the Q♣, sending him to the rail in ninth place.

Dart Serg arrived at the final table short stacked and capped the betting preflop vs. Demonic16. The flop fell 9♥7♦3♠ and Dart Serg bet his last 8,028. Demonic16 called and turned over A♦8♦4♠2♥ while Dart Serg showed A♣J♠J♦4♣. Demonic16 made the nut low when the 6♠ turned and rivered the 5♣ for an eight-high straight, ending Dart Serg’s run in eighth place.
Four hands later, marroca5 opened for a raise to 24,000, marek_heinz called from the small blind and ilushan three-bet to 36,000 from the big. Both marroca5 and marek_heinz called and the flop fell K♦Q♦7♠. Marek_heinz checked to ilushan, who bet 12,000. Marroca5 raised, marek_heinz folded, and ilushan called off the last of his chips with A♥K♠J♦3♥— a pair of kings and a gutshot straight draw. Marroca5 revealed A♦9♦6♣4♥ for the nut flush draw and hit it when the 8♦ turned. Ilushan needed a deuce, four, five, or six to split the pot, but the board paired eights on the river, sending ilushan to the rail in seventh place.
Chips changed hands for another twenty minutes before Demonic16 capped the betting preflop, committing 48,000 of his remaining 100,000 chips against two opponents. The flop came down 10♠6♦5♦ and the action checked to Demonic16, who bet 16,000. Both jnsan1 and marek_heinz called. The turn brought the 5♠ and again, the action checked to Demonic16. He bet 32,000 and both jnsan1 and marek_heinz called. The river was the 10♥ and this time, jnsan1 led out for 32,000. Marek_heinz gave up his hand and Demonic16 called off his remaining 4,584. Although Demonic16 turned trip fives with A♥A♠5♥4♥, jnsan1 rivered trip tens with A♣10♦7♠3♦ and eliminated Demonic16 in sixth place.
Homasapiens arrived at the final table with 852,000 and topped a million in chips at one point before taking a long, slow tumble. He lost a 392,000 pot to shjo, who rivered an ace-high flush to scoop, then dropped a 423k pot to marroca5, who flopped sixes full of jacks and got maximum value from homasapiens’s kings and sixes. Down to 178,000, homasapiens called marek_heinz’s preflop three-bet and check-called 25,000 on the A♣7♥6♣ flop. The rest of homasapiens’s chips went in when the 6♦ turned and he revealed J♥8♥6♠5♥ for trip sixes and a low draw, while marek_heinz showed A♥10♥10♦2♣ for aces up. Homasapiens made his low when the 2♥ rivered and scooped the pot, doubling his stack to 395,000.
Jnsan1 left marroca5 reeling when both players rivered trip kings on a K♠9♥2♣K♥K♣ board, but jnsan1’s ace kicker played to take down to 225k pot. Marroca5 was left with less than one big bet and put his remaining 47,000 in the pot preflop vs. homasapiens and marek_heinz, who checked down the 10♥4♥2♣K♦10♣ board. Marek_heinz turned over A♠K♥8♣2♦ for kings and tens; it was good enough to scoop, and the final table’s most decorated player hit the rail in fifth place.
After marroca5’s elimination, jnsan1 was the table short stack with 172,000 in chips. With the betting limits up to 30,000/60,000, homasapiens raised to 60,000 and jnsan1 defended his big blind. The flop came down A♦9♥2♦ and jnsan1 check-called homasapiens’s 30,000 bet. The turn was the 3♠ and jnsan1 check-called all-in, revealing Q♦J♦10♦2♣ for a flush draw while homasapiens showed A♠K♥10♥4♣ for a pair of aces and a wheel draw. The 4♥ river made homasapiens aces up and jnsan1 slunk to the rail in fourth place with only a pair of deuces.
The betting limits rose to 40,000/80,000 and a battle broke out between homasapiens and marek_heinz. Homasapiens opened for 40,000, marek_heinz three-bet to 120,000 and homasapiens called to see a 10♥4♥3♦ flop. Marek_heinz led out for 40,000, homasapiens raised, marek_heinz three-bet and homasapiens called. Marek_heinz bet the 6♦ turn and led again when the J♥ rivered. Homasapiens called all-in and turned over Q♣10♣6♥4♦ for tens and sixes, but marek_heinz turned a 6-5 low and rivered a flush with A♥Q♦5♦5♥. Once the chip leader, homasapiens had to settle for third place and a $10,301 score.
Heads-up chip counts
Seat 2: marek_heinz (2,244,362 in chips)
Seat 5: shjo (265,638 in chips)
The chip counts were rather lopsided going in to heads-up play and it only took one more hand for marek_heinz to close out the win. Marek_heinz opened for 80,000 on the button, shjo three-bet and marek_heinz called. The flop fell A♥5♠4♣ and shjo led out for 40,000. Marek_heinz called. The turn brought the 2♠ and shjo checked to marek_heinz, who bet 80,000. Shjo raised all-in for 105,638 and marek_heinz looked him up.
Marek_heinz revealed a wheel for high and low, leaving shjo drawing only to a full house for half the pot. The river, however, was a blank with the J♥ and marek_heinz shipped his first SCOOP title.
Congratulations to marek_heinz on joining the ranks of SCOOP champions! He banked $19,076.00 while ruuner-up shjo earned $14,056.00.
