SCOOP 2015 has been quite the series, seeing enough world-class performances from enough players to make the Player Of The Series race a legitimate battle from start to finish. What better way to wrap up the series than a $1,050 turbo re-entry tournament with three-quarters of a million dollars guaranteed? More than 1,300 players agreed and the end result was a second career SCOOP title for Alexander “Sussie Smith” Roumeliotis.
With 1,310 players and 183 opting for re-entries during the extended registration period, the total prize pool came to $1,493,000. The top 171 finishers shared it, with $253,810 set aside for the champion. The tournament was a breeze at just 4 hours and 13 minutes, the last 42 of those minutes spent at the final table that kicked off at 8:31 p.m. ET with 25K/50K/6.25K blinds and antes and three past SCOOP winners looking to repeat:
Seat 1: Victor “Puropoker123” Lemos (411,797 in chips)
Seat 2: Martin “nizmo jiz” Kozlov (614,085 in chips)
Seat 3: vovtroy (489,027 in chips)
Seat 4: myJewishWife (362,456 in chips)
Seat 5: Mikael “ChaoRen160” Thuritz (335,364 in chips)
Seat 6: Alexander “Sussie Smith” Roumeliotis (2,348,376 in chips)
Seat 7: HereFijiFiji (1,209192 in chips)
Seat 8: Alea1actaest (353,733 in chips)
Seat 9: Matas “bebaimis777” Cimbolas (1,340,970 in chips)
What would prove to be nearly non-stop action at the final table got started on Hand #7 when Mikael “ChaoRen160” Thuritz opened all-in for 197K on the button with Q♦ 10♥. He won after flopping two pair against big-blind caller HereFijiFiji’s 9♠ 4♣. On the next hand, last year’s Event #12-H champion vovtroy opened all-in for 490K with 6♣ 6♠ in middle position, and myJewishWife called for 227K in the hijack with A♥ J♦. The rest of the table folded, the sixes held up on the Q♦ 2♦ 4♣ 9♣ 7♦ board, and myJewishWife was gone in 9th place ($16,124.40).
vovtroy doubled again on Hand #13, this time after re-raising all-in with A♦ J♦ in the small blind after Matas “bebaimis777” Cimbolas opened with Q♥ 9♥. The 2014 WPT Nottingham champ called vovtroy’s re-raise but lost out on the 7♦ 8♣ K♠ 5♠ 3♦ board.
Martin “nizmo jiz” Kozlov opened Hand #15 all-in for 527K with 7♥ 7♣ and Mikael Thuritz called all-in for 448K on the button with A♣ Q♣. The board falls 8♥ 5♠ K♦ 2♥ K♠ and Thuritz left in 8th place ($29,113.50), his second final table cash of this series after placing third in Event #35-H.
Alea1actaest doubled to 332K on the next hand with Q♠ J♦ in the big blind against small-blind HereFijiFiji’s 10♠ 3♠. Then Alea1actaest raised all-in on Hand #17 for 320K in the small blind with K♣ Q♣. The die was cast as bebaimis777 called with Q♦ 3♠, the board fell 9♥ 3♣ 4♣ 7♦ 5♠, and bebaimis777 won the 727K-chip pot with a pair of treys to knock out Alea1actaest in 7th place ($44,043.50).
Some relative downtime came for a few hands before Victor “Puropoker123” Lemos doubled to 708K on Hand #21 with A♥ J♦ against Sussie Smith’s Q♥ J♥. Then came Hand #24, when nizmo jiz scored a double knockout with A♦ K♠ in the big blind after HereFijiFiji moved all-in for 385K in the cutoff with 3♠ 3♣ and Puropoker123 re-raised all-in for 568K with A♠ Q♦. nizmo jiz called and won with top pair after the board came 9♣ K♣ 5♥ Q♠ 7♣, busting HereFijiFiji in 6th place ($58,973.50) and Puropoker123 in 5th place ($73,903.50). It was the seventh final table finish of SCOOP 2015 for Lemos, including two wins in Event #28-H and Event #31-H.
bebaimis777 moves all-in for 1.03M in the cutoff on the next hand with J♥ J♦ and doubled up against Sussie Smith’s A♣ Q♠ on a 5♦ 2♣ 10♥ K♦ 9♣ board. The longest lull of the final table followed, with seven hands passing before bebaimis777 jammed for 2.85M on the button with Q♣ 9♦. nizmo jiz called with Q♦ Q♥ and doubled to 3.87M on the 6♥ Q♠ J♠ 3♣ 5♠ board., but he turned that profit over on Hand #34 after opening all-in with J♠ 8♠. vovtroy called all-in for 1.1M with A♣ 10♠ and doubled up with a pair of aces on the 6♦ 10♥ 3♦ A♥ 2♦ board, starting a spiral of double-ups.
Hand #40 saw bebaimis777 shove on the button with K♠ 7♠ and double to 1.59M when vovtroy calls with K♥ 2♦ in the big blind when the board came 10♦ 6♠ Q♠ 3♣ K♦. Four hands after that, vovtroy doubled to 2.63M, calling with K♥ 3♠ in the big blind after nizmo jiz shoved with 9♣ 5♣ in the small and catching top pair on the 2♣ K♦ 2♥ 6♥ Q♦ board. Then Hand #49 saw Sussie Smith double to 2.65M in the big blind, calling with K♠ 10♣ in the big blind and making a full house on the 5♣ 5♦ 5♥ K♣ 3♦ board after vovtroy shoved in the small with Q♠ 8♣.
Hand #50 broke the cycle when nizmo jiz open-shoved under the gun with 1.56M and ended up heads-up with Sussie Smith, who had Q♥ Q♠ in the small blind. The board came 10♣ 7♦ K♥ 9♠ J♥, the queens held for the 3.37M-chip pot, and nizmo jiz left in 4th place ($101,524), the third final table of this SCOOP for him after Event #14-M and Event #37-H.
Sussie Smith opened the next hand all-in on the button with K♣ 9♦ and vovtroy called with A♠ 8♥ in the big blind, doubling to 2.72M when the board came J♥ 6♦ J♣ 10♦ 2♦ and neither player’s hand improved. bebaimis777 opened the following hand all-in for 1.59M on the button with K♥ 8♣ and Sussie Smith called with A♥ 7♠ in the big blind, making a pair of sevens on the Q♠ J♥ 6♦ 10♣ 7♣ board to win the 3.33M in the middle and bust bebaimis777 in 3rd place ($141,685.70).
There was going to be a repeat SCOOP champion now. The only question was who would win it. Keeping up the aggression, Sussie Smith shoved on the button two hands into heads-up play with Q♦ 7♥. vovtroy picked up A♠ A♥ and called, doubling to 4.29M on the 5♥ 6♥ 3♦ 10♥ 5♠ board.
That put vovtroy in the lead by about seven big blinds but the situation flipped back around on four hands later when Sussie Smith min-raised with A♣ K♣ and then called all-in for 3.2M when vovtroy jammed on the button with A♠ 4♣. The Q♣ 2♦ 4♥ flop put vovtroy ahead and the 7♣ had Sussie Smith up against the wall, but the K♠ on the river gave him the double to 6.58M. vovtroy shoved on the button the following hand with 7♠ 4♠, Sussie Smith called with K♣ 10♥, neither player improved on the 3♦ J♣ 9♦ 2♥ A♠ board, and the SCOOP 2015 Wrap-Up was wrapped up.
vovtroy’s runner-up finish meant no second title after last year’s win in Event #12-H, but $185,625 is quite the consolation prize. The win was good for $253,810 and a second career champion’s watch for Alexander “Sussie Smith” Roumeliotis, who took down the title against an elite field in last year’s $21,000 Heads-Up High Roller event. Congratulations to both players on surviving the turbo rapids to come out ahead with some very nice prize money, and to Mr. Roumeliotis for a repeat win to close this series out in style.
